Along the Ad Routes
By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com
Lynne, Kevin and Dan Kroll were in town, but unfortunately for the funeral
of their brother Michael. I had run into Lynne a few years back at a Barneveld
girls basketball game when her daughter, Haley, was playing for Madison
Edgewood. Dan worked for us at the Chronicle quite a few years back - he's
a newspaper in Florida now. Kevin, I hadn't seen since he was in high school.
They used to live about a block away from us when we lived on East Chapel
Street. Their mother was Joann (Moore) Kroll, who was married to Dr.
Hohler, from Mineral Point. Anyway, it was really good to see them, but not
under those circumstances.

The Green Bay Packers still didn't look like the team of old Sunday when
they lost to Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers 37-29. In the second half
they did play better overall both offensively and defensively. But Aaron
Rodgers still missed several open receivers and didn't spot a few of them
when they were wide open! That's not like him. The defense did step up from
the first half and a huge interception gave them a shot to tie with under 3:00
left. When they had a first and five on the 17 I thought that may happen, but
it didn't with a desperation pass on a 4th down play being picked off. Oh
well, it's just a game and they have 8 more to play. Hopefully though I hope
they don't finish the season 6-10 (they are 6-2 right now)!

Congratulations to the Pecatonica-Argyle and Mount Horeb-Barneveld
football teams as they both completed their seasons in playoff fashion trying
to get to the state tournament. Pec/Argyle lost right at the end of the game -
that was extremely tough!

Jeanie Lewis stopped in at the end of this past week. She dropped off a couple
of stories she was working on and then brought me some apple pie/cake
that was pretty darn good. For those of you who don't know, Jeanie worked
for us for quite a few years and was our Democrat Tribune (Mineral Point
paper) editor until she retired a few years back.

For those of you who didn't get a chance to attend the Dodgeville High
School musical - The Sound of Music - you missed a great production by the
cast and organizers. The singing was really something by all involved. The
solos were great and I was especially impressed with the nun's choir. Everyone
I talked with had nothing but praise to say about the performance(s).
Check out the photo above of the Von Trapp children (l-r) Jenna Sersch, Jason
Horton, Lauren Dochnahl, Ryan Walczak, Jackie Frank, Matty Olson and
Corley Jewell. In two of the four performances Matty Olson and Corley Jewell
were replaced by Audrey White and Chloe Johnson.

Friday noon I had a chance to reunite with quite a few of my DHS Class of
1964 members plus a few "oldsters" and "youngsters" who came to the
luncheon at the Red Room. I had a chance to talk with Mike Collins, a classmate
I don't usually get to see very often. He talked a lot about fishing! And,
in the mail this week, classmate Sherrie (Jeske) Zinck, of Boscobel, wrote a
note with her newspaper renewal. She said: "Please renew our subscription
and keep up the good work! I look forward every week to the Chronicle.
Thanks Again!"

I see a lot of work being done around the outside of the former Lands' End
