Panthers improve to 14-3 - win pair


Iowa-Grant's softball team won a pair of contests last week to improve to 14-3 on the season.
The Panthers avenged an earlier defeat in a big way and took care of Southwestern 13-2 in five innings in SWAL play Monday and before that they whipped Platteville 8-1 in non-conference play Friday.
They wasted little time against the Wildcats plating five runs in the first inning - keyed by as two-run home run by Hannah Stevens.
They scored twice more in the second and a two-run homer by Brea Stanton in the third helped put five more on the board.
They scored one more time in the fourth.
The Wildcats could only muster two runs and seven hits off of Stanton in four innings. She didn't strike out or walk a batter.
Miranda McCarthy worked the final frame allowing one hit while striking out a batter.
Taylor Jackson was 2x4 while Stanton, Kylie Moneypenny and Lauren Winkler were 2x3 each.
Madison Kuhl worked the five frames for Southwestern. She struck our four, walked two and gave up 12 hits.
Jalyn Kephart was 2x2 and Allison Brand 2x3 with a double.
"We hit the ball pretty good and our pitching and defense was also strong," said Iowa-Grant coach Deanna Fulton. "It was good to avenge a loss we took earlier in the season."
Stanton was sharp on the mound against the Lady Hillmen. She struck out six without a walk while allowing just a solo home run in the sixth. She gave up only five hits on the day.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first and led 3-0 after a tally in the fourth. They put the game away with five in the sixth.
Georgie Faull was 2x2 as the only multiple hit player for IG.
Emma Liddicoat had a double and rbi. Shania Sarbacker had one run batted in and Miranda McCarthy plated two runs with a hit.
McCarthy also finished the game on the mound. She fanned one, walked one and didn't allow a hit.
K.D. Hoyer started on the mound for Platteville. She gave up five runs and five hits while striking out one and walking one.
Sierra Brecke finished allowing three runs and two hits. She didn't strike out or walk anyone.
Brecke also was 2x3 and her homer was the Lady Hillmen's lone tally.
IG is 10-3 in SWAL play.
