Dodge-Point girls, boys claim crowns


Both the Dodgeville-Mineral Point girls and boys track and field teams won championships at the prestigious Boscobel Sparky Reynolds Memorial Invitational Friday.
The girls scored 145 points to runner-up Cuba City's 120.833 in what was basically a two team meet.
The rest of the 20 team scores were: Cashton 68, Lancaster 62, Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld 57, Boscobel 52, Brookwood 38.5, Wauzeka-Steuben 2, De Soto 21.5, North Crawford 19.333, Darlington 17.5, Fennimore 15.5, Richland Center 14.5, River Ridge 13.5, Belmont 9.5, Southwestern 6.333, Hillsboro 5, Kickapoo/LaFarge 5, Ithaca 4, Riverdale 3.
Mary Hanson and Taylor Stanek were two event individual winners.
Hanson won the 400 in 59.1 with teammate Mikaela Bakker right on her heels in second with a 1:00.66 time. Hanson also copped the 800 in 2:21.3 with teammate Brittany Rhyner right behind her in 2:24.46. Another teammate, Kennedy Stumpf, finished fourth in 2:30.01.
Stanek won the high jump at 5'2" and and 300 hurdles in 48.21
The 4x400 relay team of Bakker, Stanek, Rhyner and Syd Staver won in a meet record time of 4:06.33, shattering the former mark by over two seconds.
The 4x800 team of Kennedy Stumpf, Hannah Owens, Rhyner and Bakker won in 9:52.75.
Bri Johnsrud took the discus title with a toss of 115'5".
Owens won the 3200 in 11:24.81, more than 30 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Both the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams took second.
The 4x100 team of Jaynie Gorgen, Jaycie Runde, Madison Stumpf and Jalissa Weier broke the previous meet record (51.81) at 51.19 with Cashton timed in 50.96 to win.
The 4x200 team made up of the same combination also topped the meet mark (1:49.04) in 1:46.07 with Cuba City winning in 1:45.95.
Other finishes were: 100-Alexa Bohnsack 12th 14.11, Sara Polinag 13th 14.12; 200-Marissa Parkin 10th 28.81, Alyssa Belling 11th 29.39; 1600-Mckenzie Hall 2nd 5:30.07; 100 hurdles-Lizzzy Doolittle 7th 18/38, Megan Pluemer 8th 18.4, Claire Binsfeld 13th 19.2; 300 hurdles-NatalieChubb 6th 52.36, Pluemer 8th 53.46; high jump-Haley Chubb 17th 4'6"; pole vault-Ally Brennan 10th 6'; long jump-Staver 2nd 16'8.5"; triple jump-Bohnsack 5th 34'2", Parkin 12th 29'2.25"; shot put-Johnsrud 8th 32'5.75", Kari Brokish 26th 25'10"; discus-Brook Rhyner 35th 72'2".
The boys won overall with 111 points to Wisconsin Heights/Barn-eveld runner-up in the 19-team meet with 86 points.
Other team scores were: Boscobel 68, North Crawford 66, Darlington 63, Kickapoo/LaFarge 56.5, Cuba City 50, Lancaster 38.5, River Ridge 25.5, Belmont 24, Brookwood 23, De Soto 17, Fennimore 16.5, Richland Center 16, ithaca 15, Prairie du Chien 10, Riverdale 9.5, Cashton 4, Wauzeka-Steuben1.5.
The relay teams nearly completed a sweep of four events.
The 4x100 team of Tony Rill, Kyle Fitzsimmons, Josh Shepler and Crris Francia won in 44.56 as did the 4x200 team of Noah Goetze, Fitzsimmons, Ryan Raess and Shepler in 1;33.29.
The 4x400 team of Francia, Raess, Steven Blume and Shepler won in 3:33.17, but their string ended when the 4x800 team of Declan McGraw, Isaac and Payton Grunow and Gerrit Bakker took fourth in 832.74.
Shepler won the high jump at 6'.
Jim McGuire won the 300 hurdles in 42.7 with teammate Micah Sprain second in 43.86.
Other finishes were: 100-Lucas Sanchez 4th 12.01, Micah Sprain 7th 12.54 with Rill disqualified for a false start after finishing 2nd in the preliminaries in 11.83; 200-JR Obien 21st 26.28; 400-Schickel 2nd 51.04, John Phelan 12th 55.8; 800-Blume 2nd 2:00.69, Bakker 4th 2:02.82; 1600-Tyler Wunnicke 7th 4:54.42; 3200-Juan Navarro 5th 10:27.66, Jordan May 13th 11:11.49; 110 hurdles-McGuire 2nd 16.7, Sprain 3rd 16.93; long jump-Raess 10th 17'7.75", Goetzke 12th 17'4.75"; triple jump-Sprain 8th 36'5.75"; shot put-Chance Gollon 14th 36'10.5", Lance Johnsrud 16th 36-.5",; discus-Johnsrud 12th 111'4", Zack Tolzman 20th 101'4", Trevor Oomens 25th 99'1".
