Eagles sweep Ridge, lose to Fennimore


Barneveld's baseball team swept a double header with winless River Ridge Friday then lost a non-conference game to Fennimore Monday.
The Eagles disposed of the Timberwolves 7-1 and 17-1.
In the first game the Eagles scored twice in the first and third and single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
Cole Breuer went three and Colton Sullivan four in the first game. Breuer gave up two hits and the lone Timberwolves run while walking one and striking out one. Sullivan held the Wolves scoreless while spacing three hits.
Wes Williams and Sam Shatrawka both had two hits and Wes Williams had a double and two rbis. Breuer also had a hit and two rbis.
Trey Laube had a hit and an rbi. Brycen Sorensen closed out the hitting with the eighth Eagles' hit.
Williams drove in a run with his double in the third and Laube singled for another to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead. They took a 2-0 lead after one on a walk to Trevor Siegenthaler and three straight hits by Nate Francque, Shatrawka and Breuer.
Sullivan, Wes Williams and Shatrawka took turns on the mound in the second game. Sullivan worked three with one hit, no runs, no walks and three strikeouts. Williams also went three with two hits, an unearned run along with two walks and six punchouts. Shatrawka went the final frame with two hits, no runs, one walk and two strikeouts.
The Eagles had 12 hits with Cole Breuer going 3x4 and Sullivan 2x3. Brycen Sorensen, Jacob Slaney, Nate Francque, Caleb Behnke and Wes Williams all had one hits.
But Trey Laube stole the show with a 2x4, four rbi performance for the Eagles.
The Eagles had four runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and sixth and seven in the seventh.
The four run fourth was keyed by an rbi on a Sorensen groundout and an rbi single by Sullivan.
The fifth saw Laube knock in Williams and Will Clausen with a single. Laube also brought in Breuer with a single in the sixth and scored himself on a hit by Slaney.
Breuer and Williams had rbi singles in the big seventh that also included a two run hit by Sorensen. The Eagles were also helped by a fielders choice and a two run error.
The Fennimore game was a clash of the Eagles as both teams go under the nickname "Golden Eagles." Fennimore won the game 15-5.
Sam Shatrawka went two innings and was touched for nine runs by the hard hitting Fennimore squad. He gave up eight hits while walking two and striking out one.
Trevor Siegenthaler went the final 3 2/3 with five hits, six runs, four walks and four strikeouts.
Jeff Needham was a force for Fennimore as the big catcher reached the fences twice and drove in six runs. He finished the game 2x3.
Brent Needham was 2x3 with three rbis. Fennimore pounded out 13 total hits.
Barneveld got a 2x2 game from Cole Breuer and he knocked in a run. Nate Francque had a hit and an rbi as did Shatrawka who doubled. Wes Williams and Brycen Sorensen had the rest of the six Barneveld hits.
Barneveld scored four runs in the first. Colton Sullivan led off with a walk and Sorensen reached on an error. Siegenthaler sacrificed both up a base then Francque singled and Shatrawka doubled for a 4-0 lead.
Barneveld got one more run in the third. Breuer singled, advanced on an error and eventually scored on a passed ball.
Jeff Needham had three runs homers in both the first and third frames.
