Cards sweep Albany, get first loss from Comets


Highland's high school baseball team, the top ranked club in WIAA
 Division 4, suffered its first loss of the season Monday at Cassville when the Comets slipped past them 2-1.
The Comets spoiled a strong pitching performance by senior left hander Austin Yager when they plated the winning run with two outs in the final frame. Yager spaced six hits, struck out 12 and walked three.
But Cam Jensen was a touch sharper as he went the distance for the Comets. He spaced three hits, two by Yager, while fanning nine and did not issue a walk. He was also 2x4 for Cassville.
Colton Reynolds also was 2x4 for the Comets.
Highland scored its lone run in the sixth which tied the game. Cassville had taken a 1-0 lead with a run in the first.
Nate Robinson had the third hit for Highland and scored the lone run.
The loss put Highland's record at 16-1.
Friday the Cardinals used Yager and JR Linscheid in a double header with Albany and the duo shut out the Comets in both games.
Yager came through with a 14 strikeout three hitter and did not walk a batter.
Linscheid had a 15 strikeout two hitter and issued five walks in a 2-0 win.
In the 6-0 win Drew Drury and Linscheid both had two hits and an rbi. Linscheid and Nate Michek scored twice while Nate Robinson and Alex Michek crossed the plate once.
Mitchell Welsh, Nate and Alan Michek all had one hit with Welsh getting an rbi.
Drury and Alex Michek both doubled.
In the 2-0 win rbis were by Yager who sent in a run with a sac fly and Nate Michek who was 2x3. Yager sent home Nate Michek and Michek plated Nate Robinson who reached on a single.
One of Linscheid's hits went for a double.
Highland picked up an important win Tuesday at Belmont and called on the right arm of JR Linscheid to do it.
Linscheid limited the Braves to one hit and fanned 10 in a 5-0 shutout win.
Nathan Robinson had a 2x3 night for the Cardinals.
