Big fifth sends Point past Southwestern

Facing a 3-0 deficit after four innings the Mineral Point baseball team knew something had to happen soon.
It did.
The Pointers came up with a five run fifth and went on to beat Southwestern 6-3 in a SWAL game Monday.
Ten batters got to the plate in the inning. Joey Gorgen started it with a single and singles by Dylan MacGilvra and Taylor Robinson loaded the bases. The barrage continued with singles by Sy Staver, Turner Poad, Tarek Oellerich and Alec Schmitz which completed the run.
The Pointers added one more run when Staver walked and eventually scored in the seventh on a sac fly by Oellerich.
Oellerich went 6 2/3 innings then left after issuing a walk and hitting a batter. Joey Dolphin came on to finish with a strikeout.
Oellerich fanned eight and walked six in a three hitter.
Gabe Ottoway led the offense with a 2x4 day at the plate and reached base three times.
"We did enough to win," said coach Dan Burreson. "We had a good fifth inning where a lot of guys contributed. Sy, Turner, Tarek, Alec, Joey Goren, Dylan and Tarek all had hits in the inning."
"We created an insurance run in the seventh and Tarek pitched well," said Burreson. "Joey Dolphin came in to get another save."
