Along the Ad Routes

stop for a vehicle coming at me that also turns that way, but to its right - then
the directional goes on after the driver makes the turn! Not that it really hurts
anything, but it just amazes me when that happens. Why even bother to turn
on the directional after making the turn? If you were going to be given a
ticket for failure to use your directional while making a turn, it would happen
even if you turned it on after making the turn!

I was cruising along the four lane highway heading to Mount Horeb Saturday
and following a vehicle - both of us doing about 72 MPH. A very long
and big semi passed both of us. The driver must've been late because most
of the semi drivers stay pretty close to the speed limit - or at least the flow
of traffic.

I think I got my fill of softball over the weekend. I went to the
Barneveld/Iowa-Grant game Friday afternoon then to the Highland Tournament
Saturday morning, the Mount Horeb (Dodgeville/Barneveld) Tournament
around noon Saturday and then the Iowa-Grant tournament late that
afternoon. Oh and I sprinkled in the Dodgeville Knights Home Talent baseball
game Friday night where I was in the concession stand!

Sunday was kind of a dreary Mother's Day as it sprinkled rain several times
and the temperature never really got very warm. I went over to Cobblestone
Coffee House and got a "Mint to Be in The Chronicle" signature drink and
after walking outside had to go back into the office to get my "fall/early
spring" coat!

I was shocked to hear of the death of Dan Aultman, owner of The Summer
Kitchen, a jams and jellies shop that always produces great apples and other
fruits. Dan was a good friend and he worked for Jim Schroeder in the earlier
years mentoring under him as to perfecting the product(s). Dan had just called
me for a label order maybe the same day that he passed. I (Tom Chappell before
me) printed the product labels for The Summer Kitchen. Dan was just
42 years of age.

This coming Saturday you can get your fill (and your houses too) of very
special plants as the Uplands Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale at
Harris Park starting early in the morning - and you'll want to get there early
for the best selection. The growers are a group of Master Gardeners too!
*****
Also on Saturday is the annual Iowa County Humane Society's plant sale
- not too far from Harris Park. So, if you don't find exactly what you want at
one place, visit the other - or just stop at both!

Our area's first high school graduation takes place on Saturday as Highland
