Cards tip Panthers in eight innings


It took eight innings to decide it but Highland's baseball team held on to beat Iowa-Grant 7-6 in a non-conference game Thursday.
JR Linscheid doubled in two Highland runs in the seventh and the Cardinals went on to win it with one in the top of the eighth.
The Panthers had controlled the game early and held a 6-3 lead after five. But then the Cards caught fire.
Alex Michek singled in Austin Yager who had reached base after being hit by a pitch to cut the lead to 6-4 in the sixth..
JR Linscheid then doubled in Evan Rusch and Nate Robinson who had singled to tie the game in the seventh.
The solo run Highland scored in the eighth held up as Yager came on for a one-two-three bottom of the eighth.
IG had started its scoring in the second inning when Charles Christianson singled, stole second and came home on a single by Josh Haase. Christianson had a 2x3 performance while Haase was 3x4 with three rbis.
Tad Spurley, Christianson and Haase had rbis in a three run third.
The Panthers followed with single runs in the fourth and fifth.
Caleb Hill also had a multiple hit game for the Panthers as he went 2x4. and Acea Upmann had the only extra base hit for IG with a double.
Isaac Anderson, Christianson and Hill all threw for the Panthers.
Alex and Nate Michek pitched for the Cardinals with Yager getting the win in relief.
Robinson, Nate Michek, Linscheid and Yager all had two hits for Highland with Rusch and Adam Wolfe getting one each.
Linscheid and Yager both knocked in a pair of runs.
Robinson, Nate Michek Linscheid, Yager and Wolfe all doubled for the Cards.
Highland had the edge in hits, 10-9.
