Along the Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

There's nothing that irks me more (actually there probably is) than a driver
who is heading along and then stops at an intersection and makes a turn to
the left WITHOUT USING THEIR DIRECTIONAL! That happened to me
twice last week. The directional is supposed to give warning to the person
behind you, the person approaching you and the person at the intersection
(if one is there). I just don't see how hard it is to turn on that directional -
unless you only have one hand - then you probably shouldn't be driving (or
you are using your cell phone!)!

Brother Pat and I made the trip to Green Bay (Ashwaubenon) and the Resch
Center both Thursday and Saturday to watch the Barneveld girls basketball
team dismantle two team - Fall River and Assumption. They had played both
teams earlier in the season at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells and
beat Fall River, but lost by one point to Assumption. This time, however, the
Assumption game was pretty much never in doubt and it was the Division 5
Championship contest. Congratulations to coach Jimmy Myers and the team
on their second straight gold ball at state! Even the fans "really"got into the
act when it came to celebrating and getting into the game - see photo above.

Congratulations also to Cuba City coach Jeff Pustina and his girls basketball
team as they won the game following Barneveld Saturday and brought
back the Division 4 gold ball to their school! His youngest daughter, Chloe,
is a senior point guard on the team.

While I'm on basketball, congratulations and good luck goes out to the
Mineral Point boys basketball team on winning their sectional final and they
will be heading to state in Division 4, attempting to bring back a gold ball.
Their first game is approximately at 8:15 Thursday night. Head Coach Dan
Burreson has coached them "forever". He is a Dodgeville High School graduate!

Saturday I met up with "old" friend and 1965 graduate Kramer "Butch"
Rock at a sports bar near the Resch Center called "The Bar". They were
pretty busy since the UW Badgers were playing and it was inbetween games
at the Resch Center, but about a half hour after ordering our food Butch
flagged down the waitress and said "what about our food - we only ordered
burgers"! It took her about 10 seconds to find our order in the kitchen and
bring it out! Anyway the food was good and we talked about old times, including
playing softball together along with the 1964 state boys basketball
championship. We also talked about the DASFI (Dodgeville Area Scholarship
Foundation) golf outing that is in September. He said their 1965 class
50 year reunion will be held in conjunction with this year's golf outing - the
third Sunday in September. He hopes to get more participation from their
class and they already support at least three teams for the outing every year
already!

Tuesday was St. Patrick's Day with the temperatures in the mid 40s, but
the day before around 70 degrees - WOW! Temperatures are supposed to be
in the mid 40s to mid 50s for the next week, including Friday - the first (calendar)
day of spring!

We now have Aztlan Mexican Grill serving in the former Bob's BBQ location
in Cobblestone Court - corner of Iowa and East Chapel Street in
Dodgeville. Thanks Denny (Marklein) for bringing all the businesses located
there to Dodgeville!
