signal to make a turn at the Dodgeville Methodist Church corner the other
day. Just as I was about to turn a vehicle sped around me at what I figured
must've been 40 MPH. I never saw it in my rear view mirror at all! Then on
Friday night I was heading to the Barneveld/Shullsburg boys basketball game
and I saw a police vehicle behind me with its lights going. Both myself and
the car in front of me pulled over. The one in front of me had put its brakes
on before I had seen the flashing lights, but when he/she did that I immediately
looked in my rear view and saw the approaching vehicle. The law enforcement
person came to my window and said "Do you know why I pulled
you over?" I replied, "No." He said, "Because you have a headlight out and
you were speeding." I said that I was just keeping up with traffic, but must
confess I didn't have my cruise control on. He said he was just giving me a
warning about the speeding, but to get my headlight fixed. I told him I hadn't
checked my lights since Wednesday and they were OK then! Whew!!!

Congratulations to the Barneveld girls basketball team on their third
straight WIAA State tournament appearance in Division 5. They won two
games over the weekend - Friday against River Ridge and Saturday against
Bangor - at Sectionals. I didn't get chance to see either game, but in my estimation,
them getting there was ALMOST a gimmee! They play at the Resch
Center in Green Bay Thursday at 1:35 p.m. See the above photo for part of
the celebration following the game Saturday with junior Hannah Whitish
giving a high five to young fans!

While Barneveld was playing, I was at the Dodgeville girls games in Division
3. They played a tremendous game against Adams-Friendship and
won their semifinal Thursday night. But in the finals, on Saturday afternoon,
they lost by three points, struggling to handle two girls around 6'2". But it
was a great season for the Lady Dodgers. They were ranked number one part
of the season and took down the number 2 ranked team, falling to the number
1 ranked team by those 3 points. They played their hearts out! Unfortunately
there's only one team in each Division (1-5) who finishes the season with a
win! But if you were at Middleton Saturday afternoon, you may've seen what
could've been the state championship game!

Also the Highland native - Jeff Pustina - coached Cuba City girls will represent
the area (SWAL conference team) in D4 at the Resch Center - game
time is 6:35 p.m. Thursday. Good luck to them!

Also good luck to Regional Boys champions Mineral Point (D4) and River
Valley (D3) as they continue their try for a state tournament berth in Madison
at the Kohl Center after next week's sectionals!
