Along the Ad Routes

I don't know if it was a full moon or what on Saturday. First I had breakfast
at 7 a.m. with the rest of the"Four Amigos" and when I left Country Kitchen
I turned to go south on Johns Street. A vehicle stopped at the stop sign by
Hallada's and just as I approached it the driver decided it was time to go
across heading west. I would've sworn that our front bumpers couldn't have
missed each other by two centimeters - luckily we both had pretty good
brakes and that I have pretty good peripheral vision to see the vehicle out of
the corner of my eye so I could stop! Then I went to withdraw some money
from a TIME machine (end of the month) and I dropped my card trying to
insert it into the machine while inside my car so I had to get out in the COLD
and do the work - and there was a vehicle right behind me wanting to get to
the machine! Going on I went to the Chronicle office and was looking out
the back door when I saw a little dog running loose in the lot and it was shivering.
I called it and picked it up to take inside to warm up. It was very
friendly. It looked a lot like the one owned by Greg and Linda Pittz (I
thought), who are just down the street from the office. They make Saturday
trips to "that downtown bakery", so I called down there to see if either of
them was there. Whoever answered the phone said "No, but their daughter
Steph was there a little while ago." They called Steph and she came to the
Chronicle saying it was funny her folks hadn't called her looking for the dog.
Anyway, it wasn't their dog - similar, but not theirs. Steph took it anyway
and said she would track down the owner as she has done that before several
times. Those things and stopping at the Ice Wolves Hockey tournament at
Harris Park to take some pictures pretty much took care of my Saturday
morning!

Oh, and the dog's owners were found. They were at the Police Department
reporting their dog missing and when Steph called they immediately went
to pick it up!
*****
Then, Steph's sister, Katy, said to tell me that Kiki (their dog) was mad at
me - how dare I think Kiki was a Pomeranian! I think she's some kind of Rat
Terrier!!! How does a dog expect me to remember such things?!!!

Also, Saturday evening I was headed back from the Highland-River Ridge
girls basketball Regional finals game and was following a vehicle and doing
almost 60 MPH. All of a sudden a car behind me must've thought we were
going too slow as they pulled out to pass. The only problem being is that it
was on a double yellow line!

Congratulations and Good Luck to girls basketball sectional qualifiers
Dodgeville (Division 3) and Barneveld (Division 5). They play sectional
semifinals on Thursday night and if they win - one more to get to state on
Saturday!
*****
Also, good seasons for D2 River Valley, D4 Mineral Point and D5 Highland
- each who bowed out at the regional final Saturday night.

A "little job" I've been doing is tracking down some memorabilia from the
Dodgeville 1964 state basketball championship days and get it to the WIAA.
They are doing a display on some of the "special" tournaments/moments of
state basketball at the Kohl Center for this the 100th anniversary of state boys
basketball. Oh, and brother Pat and I were interviewed awhile back by
WKOW-TV out of Madison about the 1964 tournament - that will be aired
sometime during the state tournament too! Playoffs on the boys side began
Tuesday night, so that state tournament isn't too far down the road. Above is
the photo of the 1964 state boys basketball champs - see if you can name
them all!

The girls tournament will be the week prior to the boys one - March 12-14
at the Resch Center in Green Bay.
