Soccer season ends with awards

The Dodgeville girls soccer team closed out its season in D2 regional tournaments with a 6-0 loss to Lodi.
They completed the SWC conference season with a 4-4-2 record and were 4-11-3 overall.
The team recently held a banquet to recognize six graduating seniors and hand out awards.
Seniors are: Brittany Walczak, Shianne Carroll, Megan Hottmann, Allie Horton, Ashley Bell and Dani Wetter.
Hottmann led in goals scored at 14, followed by sophomore Cassara Carey with 9, freshman Makayna Lemanski with 4 and sophomore Hannah Baldus, Shianne Carroll, sophomore Claire Baldus, Horton and Walczak with one each. Hottmann and Lemanski each had a "hat trick" game.
Hayley Elsner led in assists with 10 while Lemanski and Carroll both had four, Hottmann, Carey and Hannah Baldus two each with Bell and Wetter logging one each.
Sophomore goalie Katie Valeria registered 72 saves in 255 shots for a 1.48 average. Wetter had a 1.2 goals against average saving 15 of 18 shots.
Hottmann, Horton and Valeria were named 1st team all conference with Wetter and Carey 2nd team and Bell, Elsner, Lemanski and junior Jenna Sersch honorable mention.
Hottmann was most valuable and team captain, Bell most dedicated and team captain, Sersch most improved, and Wetter was given the coaches award.
Teela Heiring was the team's head coach with Kyle Glynn her assistant and varsity reserve coach.
The team was actually named Dodgeville-Mineral Point although there were no participants from Mineral Point this season.
"We had a great group of girls who worked hard," Heiring said about the season. "We did some fine tuning in technique and skills this year. We also had to restructure our defensive line which the girls did a wonderful job stepping up at that back line. (Allie Horton, Jenna Sersch, Brittany Walzcak and Dani Wetter)".
"This year we also fought a lot of injuries. We had anything and everything covered from head concussions to knees, quads, blisters, and ankles. With these injuries, it left us constantly rotating and putting girls into different positions or subbing more frequently," she added
"Some things we will be working on or will be working to improve for next year is conditioning, speed, and again rebuilding both our defensive and offensive of line as we will be losing six outstanding seniors," Heiring concluded.
