Area seniors compete at WBCA basketball


Area graduating seniors came together at the annual Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association's All-Star games held at JustAgame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells last Friday and Saturday.
The South squads, that were made up of players from this area, won every contest except one. The Division 1 through 5 boys South teams all won while only the D1 girls North team emerged victorious.
Some highlights for area players included:
D3 boys-River Valley's 6'11" Brandon Gilbeck played 20 minutes and scored 12 points and hauled down 10 rebounds; Dodgeville's Levi Nagel played 20 minutes and scored five points plus grabbed four boards. South 84 North 70.
D4 boys-Mineral Point's Tarek Oellerich scored 16 points and grabbed three rebounds with two steals while playing 24 minutes; Pointer teammate Sy Staver played 29 minutes scoring 14 points with four rebounds, three assists and two steals; another Pointer Turner Poad, filling in for Whitefish Bay Dominican's Garrison Goode, hit a 3 pointer, had a rebound and a steal in 20 minutes of playing time. South 95 North 82.
D3 girls-Dodgeville's Taylor Stanek played 20 minutes and hit a basket and free throw for three points and had three rebounds and a block; Dodger teammate Samantha Crowley did not score in 16 minutes of playing time, but handled the ball and helped lead the offense. South 64 North 46.
D5 girls-Highland's Brenna Bomkamp played 25 minutes and went 1x2 from the free throw line and hauled in seven boards and and a steal. South 86 North 72.
