I want to say how proud I am of Molly Hanson, who finished ninth in the NCAA Division 1 Womens 1500 meter run at Eugene, Oregon Saturday. She was hoping to finish eighth, but ninth in the Nation is pretty darn good! Molly helped us out a few summers ago at the Chronicle and helped me take care of high school state track that year. Her sister, Mary, is heading to Indiana State on a running scholarship next year as the last runner in the family - all three girls (Michaela Courtney, Molly and Mary) receiving scholarships to compete at the next level!

The other day I received a visit at the office from Dodgeville Police Officer Brandon Wilhelm. When I walked out to greet him I raised my hands and said that I would go peacefully unless he was here to take someone else then I would put up a fight! It seems he was on a mission to ask businesses to sponsor the "crossing flags" that were going to be installed in the downtown area and north and south of the downtown at several intersections. He said we could put whatever we wanted on the plaque that would be attached to the sign holder I thought to myself - "what could I say about my late buddy's place that is a little south east of our location!" you know that "Not So" Quality Bakery!

For those of you who don't know anything about that flag program - when you look to cross the street at several key intersections, you are supposed to pick up a flag on one side of the street, hold it up so motorists can see you are crossing and then carry it across and deposit it in a holder on the other side. I understand it is working quite well in Mount Horeb.

Sunday was the Dodgeville Lions Club's first (of two) Antique and Flea Market Shows of the summer. It was quite well attended with nearly 800 people coming to view the goods on display by some 50 vendors. I got a chance to be in the concession stand (something different!) for a good share of the day. Bob Kratochwill (one of the 4 Amigos) pretty much heads up the show and that day was his birthday - I won't say how old!

Sunday was also FLAG DAY. Be proud of our flag! Flag Day was first proclaimed in 1916 (June 14), but it became Nationaally observed in 1949. See above.
