Ryman wins D3 state golf, Pointers 5th; Dodgeville's Orr 7th in Division 2

Mineral Point's Taylor Ryman etched his name into the school history books by becoming the Pointers' first golf state champion ever with his WIAA Division 3 win Tuesday at University Ridge.
The senior, who finished 9th at the state meet last year, led after the first day of competition as well.
On the Par 72 course, Ryman shot a 75 Monday and a 77 Tuesday for a total of 152, which put him two strokes ahead of the second place finisher, Nathan Farrey of Lancaster. Ryman will golf at Carthage next year.
Cuba City's Drew Zimmerman came in 4th with a 161 while Argyle/Pecatonica's Matthew Severson was 20th shooting a 171.
As a team, Mineral Point finished 5th with a 717 total. Fond du Lac St. Mary's Springs won the Division 3 field with a 667 while Martin Luther placed 2nd with 683.
Last year's team champion, Lancaster, took 3rd at 699.
Besides Ryman for the Pointers, Jordan Kittleson fired a 186, Tyler Hoke 189, Dane Pfaff 190, and Kaleb Pilling 233.
Pilling was an addition to the top five for the state meet as Riley Workman was on a family vacation and unable to compete.
In Division 2, Dodgeville's Chapin Orr tied for 7th overall with a 154, shooting 77 on both days.
Orr finished 4th in last year's meet but is just back after coming off a broken collarbone injury that sidelined him until just before the post season this year. He is a Division 1 UW-Green Bay recruit.
"Chapin opened both rounds with birdies, but wasn't ever really able to get it going," said Dodgeville coach Jeff Bradley. "He had a couple of tough holes each day, but he held it together on the back nine both days."
"It was not the way he was hoping to end his high school career, but there are many great golf days ahead of him. He had a great golf career at Dodgeville High School," the coach said.
"I would also like to thank my assistant coach Greg Gevelinger for all of his extra time he put into this season. He and Chapin put a lot of time in together over the years," Bradley concluded.
Lodi ran away with the team Division 2 title posting a 603 score to best second place Madison Edgewood at 630.
Adam Miller of Lodi also took top individual honors with 144 defeating Sheboygan Falls' Matt Bachmann at 145.
