Make your best better
By Kayla Barnes-kbarnes@thedodgevillechronicle.com
were several events going on: the Iowa County Dairy Breakfast,
the Country at the Crossroads, Montfort Big Days, etc. We were
spreading ourselves a little thin trying to get everywhere to see
everything. I knew the one place that I wanted to go to: WIAA
State Track and Field in La Crosse.
If you have read some of my editorials, you will know that I
am an avid supporter of track and field. I started in the sport in
sixth grade and finally stopped competing my junior year of college.
Track and field was, and still is, my life.
I was only able to make it to state once for the 300 low intermediate
hurdles and the 4x200 relay back in 2006. Neither I nor
my teammates in the relay placed but it was still that excitement
of being on that track and having the roar of the crowd cheer
and yell and make a thunderous noise that got each of us
pumped up.
I am always excited to see kids make it up there. Track and
field is both an individual sport but very much a team sport. You
have your individual events but you would be nothing without
the support from your team and coaches. When I was in high
school, I was the only one that did hurdles religiously and sometimes
I felt alone but when I ran, I always could hear my team
yell my name.
But that is all ancient history. I am so proud of the Dodge-
Point team both girls and boys, along with everyone else that
made it to state, for all the hard work they put into their sport to
get to where they are. I may not know many, if any, of you but
still it is a great achievement to make it that far.
And to all students that didn't make it to state, never give up.
There are so many students out there that have great potential
and will do great things even if it isn't in a sport. So always
work hard and strive to make your best better.
Also I need to make a shout out to Tucker Wedig from Belmont
(yay Braves) on his winning at state. Way to go Tucker!
