Knights outlast Monroe


On a double weekend of Home Talent baseball sometimes pitching staffs get stretched to the limit.
Sunday Brad Simmons put in nine innings of work to help the Dodgeville Knights past the Monroe Brewers 8-4.
Simmons struck out six, walked four and spaced 10 hits.
The Knights took advantage of nine walks and five errors by Monroe to seal the win.
Travis Elvert singled in a run to get the Knights going in the third. Acea Upmann then singled to plate two more for a 3-1 lead.
Danny Sullivan singled in Levi Nagel who had singled with two outs and took second when Mark Ludwig drew a walk.
Nagel walked with one out in the sixth and scored on a pair of errors.
The Knights sent in three in the eighth, Ludwig led off with a single, Elvert walked and Austin Larson singled for a run. Jay Lindner sent in another with a fielders choice and another scored on an error.
The Knights had 13 hits. Larson was 3x4 with a double and Lindner 2x5 with a double. Upmann was 2x4 with a pair of rbis. Ludwig was 3x3 and Sullivan 2x5.
Nagel had the 13th Dodgeville hit.
The Knights improved to 4-5. They are at league leading Verona Sunday.
