Take what the defense gives you is one of the philosophies a team can follow.
Monday night both the Argyle Orioles and Highland Cardinals boys basketball team took that advise.....in the form of three point shots.
Argyle found the range from beyond the arc 13 times while Highland clipped their own nets from long range 10 times.
Final score: Argyle 90, Highland 76.
After the game, Highland coach Mitchell Dorshorst said, "We didn't come out with much defense. We live by the zone and tonight they (Argyle) shot well.
The game began pretty much like most scoring wise. Argyle led 19-11 after one and 42-21 by halftime.
Even at the end of three the score was modestly 60-40 in the Orioles' favor.
Then came the final frame.
Highland put up 36 points and Argyle countered with more than enough at 30.
Oriole junior Kyle Emberson ripped the nets with nine three pointers and 30 points. He nailed seven treys in the first half - but he wasn't even his own teams high scorer. Fellow junior Riley Ostby popped in 36 points with two buckets coming from long range. He also sank an even dozen free throws.
"Emberson and Ostby both were a force tonight," Dorshorst said.
Senior Colton Ploessl added a modest 12 on the night.
Highland produced the game's leading point getter in Austin Yager, who countered with 40 points.
The Cardinals had two other players reach double digits as JR Linscheid hit four threes and finished the night with 20 points and Adam Michek added 10 markers.
"Austin shot well with five threes in the fourth quarter," Dorshorst said. "JR had four threes in the fourth as we tried to fight our way back. unfortunately they made their free throws in the fourth going 12 for 18."
The Cardinals travel to Casssville Thursday night and entertain Potosi Tuesday.
