Snail Mail frustration
By Kayla Barnes-
receiving letters and cards. But now the mail I receive is mostly bills.
Recently the mail has been changing. In 2011, the USPS stated that they
were loosing money and were going to consolidate processing and distribution
facilities and centers in several different states to help save money.
They were going to do it in two different phases. The first phases started in
2012 and ended in 2013. The second phase began this year on January 5
and it has been the biggest pain ever.
Working at the Chronicle and now starting to take over the mailing and
circulation for the paper, it has been a giant headache. I have no answer to
give the tons of people that have called in and said they haven't been getting
their paper since the beginning of January. I check through their subscription
to make sure that they are up-to-date and haven't expired. I also
make sure that I haven't typed something wrong into their address that
would throw off where they need to go to get delivered. Once all that pans
out, the next thing to do is explain this whole ordeal to them.
The USPS did send out a letter in June 2014 and some media outlets had
mentioned all this last year but now that it is actually happening and not the
way I bet they expected, it down right sucks. Many people do not remember
the USPS mentioning any of this before. I know I had no idea until it
was mentioned to me earlier this year.
So if you are like the many subscribers to any of our papers, please bear
with us and don't give up on us. We are all trying our best to find out where
our papers are going so that they end up in your mail box on the right day
at the right time so you can receive the news. If you are having issues,
please don't hesitate to call and I will see if there is anything I can do for
you.
