Free throw difference sinks Cardinals

Depth is not one of the Highland boys basketball teams' biggest assets this season.
So, when Alex Michek and JR.Linscheid both fouled out of Thursday's Six Rivers West contest with Benton things got a little tight for coach Mitchell Dorshorst.
"We had to dig deep," the Highland coach said. "If anyone else fouled out we would have to suit up a JV player."
The fouls played a big role in the four point difference in the game that saw the Zephyrs outlast the Cardinals 36-34 for their first conference win. Benton made seven of 12 free throws while the Cards were only 10 for 16.
Benton was successful on six free throws and a field goal in the final quarter. Highland managed two of four in that frame with the two misses the front end of a bonus.
"Benton was the team that made their free throws," Dorshorst added. "They were hungry for their first win and battled hard for it."
Tyler Digman led the Zephyrs in the low scoring game with 11 points. Senior guard Austin Yager's 20 points paced Highland and took game honors.
"We didn't want to be the first team to lose to Benton but it happened," Dorshorst added. "We had the lead with a minute and a half left but we didn't get it done at the free throw line and they did."
