Community comes together through tragedy
By Kayla Barnes-
Montfort. On January 2nd, six-year-old Jaxon died from injuries sustained
by a gunshot wound to the head. His eight year old brother, Joseph, and
mother, Morgan, are currently in the hospital in critical but stable condition
with similar gunshots to the head. It is just horrible news for any town.
Montfort was in the news last summer and fall for the filming of Halfway
and the potential siting of Quinton Aaron. Everyone was star struck and
pleased to see such great things coming from Montfort.
I doubt this is the way anyone wanted to see their New Years begin. But
happening in such a small rural town, the community has come together to
support each other and give each other a helping hand. The town is holding
a vigil at the the house where the incident occurred, on Sunday, January 11
at 1:00 p.m. All who want to attend are welcome. People have been dropping
off stuffed animals and handwritten notes at the house. Everyone
grieves in a different way but in a small town there is always a shoulder to
cry on and someone to listen. Growing up in a small town, it was always
weird that everyone knew everything about you but when you really needed
the help, people were there to give you a hand. That is what needs to
happen with this family. Even though they were new to the area, they do
not deserve anything less than the support and comfort from the community.
No matter the circumstances, a child lost his life and that is something to
be very sad about. We do not know all the details and it is not right to jump
to conclusions and make up stories on what most likely happened until the
truth has been told. It makes me sad to see some people gossip about what
had happened. It is a terrible thing and let's leave it at that.
