League champs too much for Cardinals
Playing without their main scorer, Emma Lawrence the Zephyrs chugged to a 6-0 lead, maintained the advantage the rest of the game and closed it out with eight for 10 free throws in the final frame.
Brianna Leahy took over scoring duties for the Zephyrs with a 15 point performance to emerge as the game's high scorer.
Mackenzie Drury led Highland with eight points and Brenna Bomkamp added seven.
The Cardinals sliced the lead to under 10 late in the game but Benton/Shullsburg answered every Highland run.
"We never got into a rhythm," Highland coach Josh Tarrell said. That showed with a shooting percentage of just over 20%.
"They forced us to hurry our shots," Tarrell said.
Tarrell said while she didn't score, Shyann Dailey played solid defense all night for the Cardinals.
"She understood what we wanted done," he said.
