Dodger girls outlast Richland Center

Let's get physical, physical - I wanna get physical.
These are part of the song lyrics "PHYSICAL" by Olivia Newton-John from her 1981 Grammy award winning song. It could've best described Friday night's SWC regular season final game between Dodgeville and Richland Center in girls basketball play.
The Dodgeville team had already wrapped up their second consecutive conference championship and second in school history too.
Richland Center was looking for an upset, just as they did last year, and finishing in second place all alone. Neither happened.
The Lady Hornets, behind the three point shooting of Brooklyn Liegel, jumped to a 9-0 lead (she hit three at the onset) and didn't let the Dodgers score until exactly the 4:00 mark of the first quarter.
RC held an 18-9 lead after the opening quarter, but enter Taylor Stanek and Kara Crowley. The two put in 12 and 7 points respectively during an 18 point second frame. The Dodgers led for the first time at 19-18 when Kara Crowley hit a trey. Her second long range shot of the period put them up 22-18 and they really never looked back in a 61-47 win.
The point spread went between tied and six most of the way until the end.
With the Dodgers leading 41-36 going into that final quarter they outscored the Lady Hornets 20-11 for the 14-point win.
Liegel hit a three at the 1:00 mark of the fourth to pull her team to within 10 at 56-46, but Hannah Jones had a steal, lay-in and free throw while Stanek nailed a three pointer and Jones came up with another steal and lay up to close out the scoring.
Stanek, the Dodgers' all-time leading point getter and a senior playing her final regular season high school contest, added eight points in that period to give her 20 on the night.
Jones, freshman, added 17 and sophomore Kara Crowley chipped in 11.
Leading scorer for the contest however was RC's Liegel, a 6'0" sophomore who hit six threes and finished with 22 points. Junior Brooke Peterson added 10 from the post.
"It was a great game. Both teams left everything out on the court," said Dodger coach Mark Dooley. "We knew it would be a physical game. Both teams played very aggressive defense."
"They (Richland Center) got off to a good start and we didn't," he added. "Credit our girls though. They got focused and held them to five points in the second quarter. We had eight turnovers in the first quarter and then after that we moved the ball really well. We did a good job finding the open person."
"Also give Richland Center credit. They had a nice defensive plan," Dooley went on saying. "We made a couple of adjustments and our girls executed them really well."
The coach also said, "Taylor wasn't really hitting for us, but she kept on attacking and finished with 20 points, Hannah is feeling better. She stayed under control and finished better tonight. I thought Kara and Kennedy (Stumpf) did a nice job on Liegel. She got open some, but Richland Center ran some nice plays for her. I also felt that Kennedy and Claire (Binsfeld) both did a great job off the bench."
"We did have too many fouls and gave them too many free throws," Dooley concluded.
Playing their final regular season game for the Dodgers were seniors Taylor Stanek, Samantha Crowley, Claire Binsfeld and Ashley Chit-wood.
The Dodgers had a bye Tuesday in first-round regional play. They take on the Prairie du Chien-Platteville winner Friday night at Dodgeville. They may have another date with Richland Center Saturday in the regional finals as the Lady Hornets play River Valley Friday night in the other contest.
