Pointers power way over Riverdale

The Pointer boys basketball team wasted no time exploding with its offensive firepower Thursday night, jumping out to a 19-7 first quarter advantage before rolling to a 71-35 SWAL win against Riverdale.
In that lightning first quarter, Tarek Oellerich was unstoppable with 11.
Long range was kind to the Pointers in the second quarter with Turner Poad and Joey Gorgen each connecting on two three pointers to help the hosts hold a 45-14 halftime lead.
Alec Schmitz paved the offensive attack in the third with seven points as Mineral Point found itself in front comfortably with eight minutes remaining, 61-29.
Three pointers from Steven Blume and Taylor Ryman were highlights of the fourth quarter for the home team.
Brett Hach was the top Chieftain with 14 and Montana Lins added 11.
Four Pointers hit double digits--Oellerich 17, Poad and Schmitz with 15 each, and Gorgen had 10.
"I thought we put together a pretty complete game tonight," said Pointer coach Dan Burreson. "We had good scoring balance with Tarek Oellerich with 17 points and 10 rebounds, Turner Poad 15 points and 6 rebounds and Joey Gorgen 10 points and 8 rebounds. Alec Schmitz continues to shoot the ball well with 15 tonight. Joey put some extra time in the gym this week and it paid off."
"Taylor Ryman gave us good minutes off the bench with 3 points and 3 rebounds. Dylan MacGilvra also did a nice job with three rebounds. Jordan Kittleson continues to give us quality minutes," added the coach.
