Fennimore, of the SWAL, pretty much ran away with the SWC/SWAL CLASH conference wrestlng tournament Saturday at Richland Center.
The Golden Eagles led from the onset and pulled away from Mineral Point (SWAL) and River Valley (SWC) for over an 80 point win.
They had three individual champions and two runners-up enroute to the crown.
Fennimore champions were: 120 lb. Alston Nutter, 126 lb. Justin Tollefson and 182 lb. Brock Steldt. Riley Blair (106) and Riley Lull (113) both took second.
Mineral Point also had a trio of title winners in 132 lb. Frank Baker, 138 lb. Ross Siegenthaler and 160 lb. Scotty Pittz. Boone Schmitz (152) and Nate Cody (220) took second.
River Valley's Zach Licht won at 106 as did Dustin Hatfield at 113 - in a match that wowed everyone in the crowd and was decided by an ultimate tie breaker. Elijah Alt was runner-up to four time champion Cole Martin of Lancaster at 145.
Dodgeville's Brady Peat was runner-up at 195 to Lancaster's David Chadd, who has beaten the Dodger three tmes this year.
Iowa-Grant had a champion in Kyle Soderstrom at 220 and runners-up in Luke Nowak at 170, who lost to Riveredale's Jared Roen, and 120 lb. Max Maylor.
Richland Center had two champions as 152 lb. Hunter Whitney and 285 lb. Kaleb Crook both won their finale. Crook had won a conference crown last year while wrestling at River Valley.

"Overall, I thought we wrestled well. I was pleased with how each guy competed," River Valley coach Ralph Liegel said about the tournament. "We're looking forward to regionals and hoping to get a couple boys back from injuries so we can be closer to a full team."
"The 113 lb. match was quite exciting between two very good wrestlers. They are actually good friends who are work out partners at a club they go to, Liegel said about one of the featured championship matches.

"Fennimore wrestled very well to win it," said Mineral Point coach Scott Schmitz. "We had five guys in the finals. I kind of felt that were we'd be. If Brandon (Forseth) had been able to wrestle he'd probably would have been there too. Bu he'll be ready for next week. I thought we could've had four champions, but we came up just a little bit short at 195."
"When you forfeit two weights, it's tough to come away with a championship," Schmitz added. "A championship next week isn't out of our reach, but we're going to just go out there and do our jobs and get some help from some other schools."
"Overall Saturday I felt all the kids wrestled well. We did have some matches slip away from us, but we should learn some valuable lessons from them and that should help us be ready for next week,"the coach concluded saying.

In talking about his wrestlers, Iowa-Grant/Highland coach Ryan Allen said:
"Sawyer looked great at times but really needs to get his set ups working for his takedowns. If he does that he will be right where he needs to be.
Ronny did a good job today wrestling up a weight class. He looked especially good on his feet. I hope he continues to wrestle well.
Max did a nice job today in getting second. He looked pretty solid even in the loss to Nutter in the finals. The faster Max realizes he is good enough to beat good wrestlers without using high risk moves, the faster he will reach his goals. He just needs to keep it basic.
Brady Peat did a nice job in getting second and had a close match with Pittz in the finals. Brady seems to improve with every match and should make some noise at regionals and sectionals.
Luke was a little sluggish in the finals against Roen but I expect him to be ready to go at Regionals.
Kyle Soderstrom wrestled ex-tremely well and I was very proud of him. I have never seen him wrestle this well and it's very exciting to watch him. He will be ready for regionals as well.
Brent, I thought, looked pretty good this weekend. He gives up a ton of weight to the heavyweights but really fights hard and never gives up. It will be interesting to see if he can upset a few of the big guys next weekend.
Clay Kite, Trenton Arndt, Travis Arndt, MaClain Marshall, and Clint Havlik are all guys that need to keep working to develop a solid offense so they can score more points.
Regionals will be a dog fight."

Dodgeville coach Tim Wunnicke talked about his team's day saying, "I felt we came up a lot shorter than we should've. We didn't execute well, but we've got a lot of freshmen who probaly were a little awed at this tournament. This is a great tournament with a lot of quality wrestlers in it - probably a lot of state champs."
"We've got a young squad," he added. "But we will have to make some adjustments for next week's regionals or we won't be sending many kids on."
