Cardinals hoping for confidence to return
"We are not playing with confidence right now," said Cardinals coach Josh Tarrell. "We just are not shooting and shooting well builds confidence."
The Cardinals did play a strong defensive game against the talented Lady Timberwolves but the offense sputtered so much that Highland had a pair of two point quarters (first and third) and trailed 24-9 after three frames.
The Cardinals did put 11 points on the board in the final frame but the damage had already been done.
"We were forced to take some tough shots because of their defense," Tarrell said. "They kept us from establishing a rhythm all night."
"We didn't run our offense and we didn't do well at getting to the boards," Tarrell added. "We've lost to three good teams in a row now (Belmont, Riverdale and River Ridge) and to turn it around we have to get our confidence back."
Caitlin Wienkes led Highland with seven points while Bridgette Meyers took game honors with 18 for the Lady Wolves.
"She scored on steals and mid-range jumpers," Tarrell said about the River Ridge junior.
"We did score better in the fourth quarter when we took chances and pushed the ball up the court more," said Tarrell. "But there was no offense to speak off the rest of the game."
