Along the Ad Routes

I get some of these "stupid" notifications from some website that I don't
have a clue where it originates. But, here's the latest: Wisconsin has been
ranked the #22 most "Puppy Loving" U.S. state, according to the Milk-Bone
Doggy Love Index. I guess that has come out since this Saturday is Valentine's
Day and your pet should not be forgotten! I always loved our dogs,
cats, pony, hogs, cows, chickens, etc. that we had on our farm. I nursed a lot
of "runt" piglets with a baby bottle over the years - but I don't remember
ever treating them as an equal human being - giving them gifts and whatever.
I always made sure they were warm enough, cool enough, healthy and well
fed. I guess I'm guess I'm really "old school"!

And if anyone cares, the "big boys" California and New York are ranked
#1 and #2!

Happy Valentine's Day to all the "women in my life" - you know who you
are!

I heard that I made a boo-boo last week in my column when I talked about
Paint Plus/DECO Supply with the name. So Bev and Royce, I got it right
this week. Dodgeville is gonna miss you as far as retailers go, but I know
you'll be a part of the community for a long time yet and your help to new
owners Jim and Sue Coatney will be invaluable!

Saturday began the "Winter Tournaments" as conference wrestling tournaments
took place all over the state. That means regionals are this coming
Saturday, then sectionals, then state. That all takes place during February.
Then the girls basketball tournaments begin on Tuesday, February 24th with
the boys tournaments beginning a week later. Time is flying by - as usual!

River Valley and Dodgeville could be the favorites at the Dodgeville Regional
to advance to wrestling team state in Division 2. Mineral Point and
Iowa-Grant/Highland will duke it out with CLASH champion Fennimore at
the D3 Lancaster Regional this Saturday to try to move on. The top two individuals
from each weight class advance to individual sectionals - both
being close by in Richland Center (D2) and Mineral Point (D3). The top team
in each regional goes on to Team Sectional (Tuesday night).

Longtime friends Happy and Dorothy Bettenhausen recently celebrated 70
wedded years. Hap used be part of a group that played music at area nursing
homes and at the Dodgeville (and other) Senior Centers, He and his wife
have been good friends with Bud and Brenda Johnson, formerly of Ridgeway
and now living in Florida. They spent some 47 Thanksgivings with them.
Hap says he keeps in touch with them and the area through their son Steve
in Spring Green and Betty Johnson in Ridgeway. They still get their homemade
sausage from Dick's in Mount Horeb and shoes from the Shoe Box in
Black Earth! They also subscribe to the Dodgeville Chronicle to keep up
with the news here!

Hap is still a Sales Consultant at Phillips Chevrolet in Frankfort, Illinois.
