Dodgers turn back improved Prairie du Chien
Dodgeville, a more seasoned team and currently in first place in the SWC dipped into their experience Friday with a couple baskets here, a couple there and some defensive stops that gave them a 61-47 decision over the young Blackhawks and kept their SWC undefeated record (6-0) intact.
A three point lead after the first eight minutes became six at halftime, 11 after three and 14 at the end.
Junior guard Trent Jones played a key role in making the scoring difference with 17 points, all in the final three frames. He had seven in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth.
Senior forward Ryan Raess added 14, eight of them in the fourth quarter, when the Dodgers put the Blackhawks away with a 19-16 margin.
The Dodgers were in a can't miss mode at the free throw line where they finished the game with 16 of 18 made gift shots.
Prairie also had a good night at the line with a 13 for 14 performance.
Sophomore Chas Sagedahl led the Blackhawks with 20 points and like Jones, got all of his in the last three frames. He had nine of Prairie's 12 in the second quarter and kept them in it as long as he could with six in the fourth.
Casey Hogenson added 10 for the Hawks.
Next up for the Dodgers is Lancaster in a home game tonight.
