Dodger girls back on track

After suffering two consecutive losses, the Dodger girls basketball team came away with a resounding 64-34 win over Lancaster in a SWC contest.
The win gave the Dodgers (6-1) a two game lead over Richland Center, River Valley and Prairie du Chien in the conference race for the top spot.
The Arrows struck first in the contest, but Samantha Crowley's three pointer gave the Dodgers a lead they would never relinquish. They quickly followed with a bucket and two free throws all from Taylor Stanek.
A balanced offense, with four players reaching double figures and 10 of 11 girls scoring, gave the Dodgers the easy win.
After an 18-10 first quarter lead, they held a 33-17 lead at halftime, and a 24-7 advantage in the third frame gave them a resounding a 57-28 lead.
Junior post Megan Pluemer led the balanced offense with 14 points with all of her scoring coming in the second and third frames.
Stanek, a senior, added 11 while sisters Samantha (senior) and sophomore Kara Crowley both hit 10.
Lancaster junior Alexis Galvan led all scorers with 18 points with 6'1" Ashton Doll adding 10. Only three other players scored for the Arrows, each with two points.
The Dodger defense held leading scorer Brittany Zenz to just two points with another two top scorers Brittany Bahl going scoreless.
"We came out with intensity - we had a purpose from the opening tip that Taylor controlled," said Dodger coach Mark Dooley. "You could see right from the start the body language that every girl had said they were ready to go and that was from our starters right down to the 11th player.
"I felt we did a good job mounting that intensity and keeping our focus," he added. "We did a much better job boxing out than we did the last two games. We made an effort to work on that in practice this week."
Dooley also said, "The girls did a good job sharing the ball and we were taking rhythm shots. And the bench players contributed giving valuable minutes and timely baskets, rebounds, steals and with their defense. They really mesh well with the starters."
"Samantha did a great job leading the team out there," he went on saying. "It was great to have 10 of 11 players score. I was really pleased with 3 1/2 quarters of our play, but we're yet to put a full four quarter game together."
