Pointers can't shake Redbirds

Darlington hit 8 of 10 free throws when they were in the double bonus down the stretch of the second half.
That pushed a 47-46 lead into a 57-51 win over Mineral Point in a key SWAL boys basketball game Thursday night.
Redbird Ryan Glendenning was 4x4 from the line in the second half while Will Schwartz was 3x4, Trevor Johnson 2x2, Chad Golackson 1x2 and Josh Soper 1x3.
Schwartz led the Birds in scoring with 15 while both Glendenning and Brayden McDonald hit 11. Mc-Donald had a trio of threes on the night.
The Pointers saw three from downtown come from Dane Pfaff as he had 13 markers, 11 coming in the second half.
Chance Wendhausen hit the same number of threes and finished with 12, 10 coming in the second half.
Darlington held a 29-24 lead at halftime.
"This was our best effort of the year," said Pointer coach Dan Burreson. "We put ourselves in position to win against a very good opponent. We just didn't quite do enough, but we battled hard."
He added, "I felt we had a good effort by Jack Warrick on both ends of the floor and another double digit night on the boards.
"Dane Pfaff had his best offensive performance of the year and hit some big shots.
"Lance Steffes is becoming more and more comfortable in his role. Dylan hit a couple shots early to get us going.
"Chance Wendhausen played well until having to leave with an ankle injury. He was able to come back and knock down a big shot, but he was really limited."
