Strong 1st half boosts Eagles

Barneveld junior Matthew Myers poured in 25 points including a trio of 'treys' Friday and coach Jim Myers' Eagles cruised to a 20 point win over coach Justin Jenson's visiting Argyle Orioles.
The Eagles also utilized a 22 point outing from junior Mike Zouski on the way to victory.
Argyle was led by senior Riley Ostby's 16 points and 13 from his teammate - Rafa Puentevella.
"Argyle's first group is really solid - they shoot the ball well and are really solid," said a complimentary Barneveld coach - Jim  Myers. following the final horn.
"We tried to neutralize that physical play in the first half and probably had more fresh bodies that we could put in as substitutes. It led to a situation where they got some fouls on some players - and had to sit them, and we took some advantage of that development."
"Mike (Zouski) got us out of the gates. Teams pay a lot of defensive attention to Matthew (Myers) - and we tell the kids, the more 'that' happen, the more often other kids are going to be open. I felt we passed the ball well tonight - getting it to the open person and were very patient - and that's good to see - to see them working well together. Defensively, we had some tips and deflections and were pretty good early, at limiting them to one shot per possession," added Myers.
Oriole coach Justin Jenson was pleased with his squad's effort.
"They zoned us all evening and in the first half, we settled for taking three point attempts. We were trying to pass over the top of their zone - but Barneveld - with a lot of long and athletic kids, made things difficult for us. I felt that in the second half, we made sure we didn't do the skip passes across court - and as a result, we got good looks and stayed right with them. Unfortunately, we'd fallen behind early, had some mental lapses and we didn't box out, which also really hurt us, especially early, when we gave them (Barneveld) too many second chance shots."
"We'll fix it - this was a good test, they are a good team. We showed some progress and will keep developing as a unit," said Jenson. The Orioles will battle Pecatonica tomorrow night (Friday, Dec 18) at UW-Platteville at 7:45 p.m.
