Pointer girls overwhelm Iowa-Grant

What do you do when you find yourself down 19-0?
You keep on playing like it is a 0-0 game.
That was what faced the Iowa-Grant girls basketball team when they traveled to take on Mineral Point in a SWAL contest Saturday.
After the first 18 minutes, the score stood 55-9 in favor of the Pointers. The final read 78-16.
"Mineral Point is a terrific team," said Iowa-Grant coach Craig Jenkins. "They physically out-muscled us tonight. They bit right into us right from the get go."
The Pointers had 12 of their 14 players score with three in double figures led by both Clara Chambers and Syd Staver with 17. Jessica Schultz added 12.
"They are very deep," Jenkins pointed out. I was impressed with Schultz coming off a harsh knee injury. She moves very well."
With Schultz being 6'2", the pointer point guard, Staver, going 5'11" and Chambers playing bigger than she is, 5'8" Mariah Ginter was the Panthers leading scorer with five points.
"I liked the effort of our kids," Jenkins said. "The girls never quit. We definitely had trouble getting the ball inside on their defense. They have very active hands."
Pointer coach Mitch Wainwright said, "Iowa-Grant had a very tough double overtime game Thursday night. That may have taken a lot out of them. They are a better team than the score indicated."
He added, "I was happy with the amount of quality playing time for everybody and the fact that 12 out of 14 scored. Everybody is starting to feel comfortable in their roles."
He mentioned the fact that Stacey Thornton hit a couple of threes, "but she played very good defense" and Carlie Qualley "found a couple of kids for layups underneath."
