Dodgeville wrestling coach Ryan Lord gave an update on the week saying, "The results from last week's Dodger wrestling action include Tuesday's 45-31 dual meet victory over Darlington/Black Hawk and a 4th place finish at the Raider Scramble in New Glarus on Saturday.
"The dual meet victory over Darlington/Black Hawk included pins by Isaac Grunow, Joey Recob, Jack Schickel, Shelby Jones and Payton Calvert. Additionally, John Phelan won by decision and Max Miller and Noah Durst each accepted forfeits.
"At the Raider Scramble, three Dodgers claimed championships. Max Miller (106) and Zack Weber (170) each pinned all four opponents en route to their titles. Payton Calvert (285) avenged his only loss of the season by defeating Aaron McCarthy of Cuba City in the championship. John Phelan placed 2nd and Noah Durst and Shelby Jones each placed 3rd as other top finishers for the Dodgers.
"The young Dodger wrestling squad has shown tremendous improvement in the early season. The Wunnicke arm bar influence is still quite apparent as the Dodgers earned 25 pins (mostly from arm-bars) during Saturday's action. We still have a lot of room for improvement, but the team demonstrates an outstanding work ethic and constantly strive to leave each match and practice a better wrestler. We are finally nearing full strength as Jonathon Geisking just returned from injury and Brady Wetter will be back in the line-up soon."
