Eagles can't stop Birds

Barneveld couldn't solve the Darlngton three point shots in the first half Monday night in a 58-50 loss to one of the SWAL favorites.
The Redbirds held a 34-29 lead at halftime, mainly on the strength of three from downtown by Ryan Glendenning, two from Will Schwartz and one from Chad Golackson.
"They (Darlington) shot the ball extremely well. We gave them open loooks in the first half and they hit them," said Eagle coach Jim Myers.
The Eagles trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half and got it back to five by halftime.
In the second half, however, the Eagles llimited the Birds to just one from long range.
Barneveld did take the lead with 2:30 to go in the game on a pass from Matthew Myers to Lucas Evans for a lay-in.
"That's a play we practice a lot and it came through for us at a key time," coach Myers said.
Their lead didn't last long as Darlington scored on their next possession.
"We came up empty the next few times and they scored on a free throw or two," Myers pointed out. "They closed it out on the free throw line,"
Myers said he was happy with his team's play in the second half.
"We disrupted what they wanted to do in the second half. The kids worked hard and played well. I told them we can't just be satisfied with playing with teams. This was a game we could've won."
Barneveld was led in scoring by Myers with 15 points, 11 coming in the first half.
Malcom Reed added 14 with 10 coming before intermission.
Darlington came up with 16 points each from Glendenning and Schwartz with Golackson adding 10.
