Wake up call gets Panthers on a roll

After spotting Richland Center a two touchdown lead Iowa-Grant's football team came back with a vengeance.
"They ran the opening kick off back for a touchdown then we went three and out. They drove for another score then we woke up and scored 43 unanswered points," said Panther coach Gary Allen.
By the end of the first quarter the Panthers had 22 points on the board and a 22-13 lead. Brayden Johnson scored on a nine yard run and added a 34 yard scamper to get the offense untracked.
Johnson finished the night with 202 yards rushing on 31 tries.
"Brayden ran the ball very well and we also completed some passes which helped us a lot," Allen said.
Junior Caleb Hill got the nod to quarterback the Panthers and threw for 198 yards, competing nine of 16. He also got into the end zone on a two yard run.
"I thought our offense played pretty well," Allen said. "The line opened holes and gave Caleb time to pass. He ran the offense well and our receivers got open and caught the ball."
Isaac Anderson caught five passes for 125 yards and scored on a 10 yard reception from Hill.
Collin Price grabbed one pass for 31 yards that ended up as a score.
The Panthers had 230 rushing yards and 198 more passing. The Hornets totaled 155 on 101 rushing and 54 passing.
"Our defense was pretty shaky early on but settled down and started doing what they are supposed to," said Allen. "The defense ended up pretty sound."
The Panthers have another challenge this week when they head to Blanchardville to face Pecatonica/Argyle.
"They are a tough and well coached team," Allen said. "We will have to play well."
Allen expects the Panthers to improve some areas after this week of practice.
"There are always things to work on after the first game," Allen said. "We need to improve on just focusing and doing our jobs consistently. We also need to be more physical. Football is about blocking and tackling and we need to improve in both of those areas."
