Saying good-bye

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

One thing I have never been good at is saying good-bye.
Some good-byes are required because a friend moves away. Those good-byes are not easy but there is comfort in knowing there is an excellent chance you will see that person again.
But, saying good-bye to someone who has passed just does not come easy for me, especially when that person is young and should have a lot of living yet to do.
But I have to say good-bye to Luke Wiegel because he has passed. There was illness involved but there was a lot of hope he would get past it.
That did not happen and now those of us who knew him are left with heavy hearts.
Luke was a Dodgeville teacher, a coach, a wonderful parent and a friend who cared. He was a prankster and a Cubs fan. His sense of humor was infectious and he taught us not to take things too seriously but if you do, have a laugh or two along with it.
Luke always did what was good. He did his best to be happy every day of his young life.
Luke had the type of character that stood out. His character was close to being as big as his heart.
Those of us who knew him are lucky and must remember how lucky as we work through the grieving process.
Luke will be missed and he will be remembered with love as he joins the glory of the Lord.
