Cardinal girls win one of three


Highland softball took on a trio of Six Rivers foes last week, losing to Highland Thursday 5-3 then to Potosi Monday 13-10 and topping Cassville-River Ridge 12-2 Tuesday.
The Cardinals got off to a good start against the Lady Chieftains scoring three times in the first two innings and held a 7-0 lead into the third.
Potosi came alive with two runs in the third and six in the fourth.
Highland countered with solo runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth, but Potosi scored five times in the sixth to put the game away.
Jessica Kosharek started on the mound for the Cards and went four frames. She gave up seven hits and eight runs while striking out five with two walks.
Karen McMannes fiished allowing five runs on five hits with one strikeout.
Brenna Bomkamp was 2x3 with three runs scored while Mackenzie Drury was 3x4 with three rbi and two doubles. McMannes was 1x2 and walked three times.
Potosi's Maddie Hawes was 2x4 and scored twice while Kenzie Brown tripled and was 2x4.
Emily Langmeier tripled and was 2x4 and Anna Kaiser was 2x3 and scored two runs.
Langmeier allowed 10 runs (8 earned) on 11 hits. She walked five without a strikeout.
Tuesday the Cardinals spotted Cassville-River Ridge two runs in the first, but that was all that hurler Bailee Rose was going to allow.
Her team scored once in the fourth, six times in the fifth and finished it with five in the sixth.
Rose helped her own cause with a three rbi double in the fifth going 1x4 on the day.
Brenna Bomkamp was 2x4 and scored three times.
Becky Pink was 2x3 with two doubles and three rbi.
Rose allowed just five hits while striking out seven with no walks.
Cassville-River Ridge was led offensively by Grace Mergen who doubled and singled in three trips and Amber Patterson who drove in one run and was 1x3.
Andrea Okey allowed 12 hits and 12 runs (8 earned) while striking out six and walking one.
"Finally - I was glad to see the girls come alive and come back after two tough losses,' said Highland assistant coach Ricky McMannes.
Thursday, the Cardinals dropped a 5-3 contest to Pecatonica.
They scored solo runs in the second, fourth and sixth and held a 3-2 lead going into the seventh. That's when the Vikings scored three times for the win.
Bomkamp was 2x2 with a double and she scored twice.
Shyann Dailey was 2x3 with two doubles.
Rose went 6 1/3 allowing five runs (2 earned) on six hits. She struck out seven and walked three.
Kosharek finished fanning one and walking one.
Emily Scoville went the distance for Pec, fanning seven, walking one and allowing three runs (2 earned) on six hits.
She also doubled in a run and was 1x3.
Brooke Johnson was 2x3 with a triple and an rbi.
