Along the Ad Routes

doing about 58 MPH, heading down a hill and following another vehicle.
All of a sudden a car pulled out to pass me and the vehicle in front of me.
The only problem was that there was a no passing zone about 20 feet in front
of me and we were about to head up a hill. Luckily there weren't any vehicles
coming toward us - that is until the driver that was doing the passing had
pulled into his own lane safely. Sometime I just can't figure out why people
are in such a hurry - and that was about 2:30 in the afternoon!

This Saturday (May 2nd) at the Dodgeville VFW Hall, Terry Carroll, Dr.
Adam Holter and Greg Marr will be honored by the boy scouts at a special
breakfast - 6:30 a.m. Steve Freese, former Wisconsin Assemblyman who
works with the Wisconsin Farm Bureau will be the guest speaker. I'm hoping
to be able to get up that early to go to it!

I am still a "homer" pulling for the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team.
Maybe by me writing this it will snap them out of the doldrums they are in.
Actually nothing is really going right for them EXCEPT replay challenges -
they are 4x4 with them on the positive side with them! At the rate they are
going as of Saturday's loss their record is 3-15 on the wrong side of .500 and
their record at the end of their 162 game schedule would be 27 up and 135
down. In the 162 game era in this century, the Detroit Tigers were 43-119.
But the Cleveland Spiders have the worst winning percentage when back in
1899 they were 20-134 and trailed their frontrunner by 84 games - that means
they were out of it before the season was half over! I hope the Brewers come
alive and make a season of it!

You'll never guess what MLB team holds the record for best winning percentage
and at the same time for the number of total wins? That's right the
1906 Chicago Cubs were 116-36 (.763 winning percentage), but lost in the
World Series. That was a 152 game season. The Seattle Mariners, in a 162
game season, also won 116 games, but lost 46 (.716).

We (the 4 Amigos) made the trek to Highland (Grandma's Kitchen) for our
Saturday morning breakfast. It's amazing the number of people who asked
us why we left Dodgeville to come to Highland for breakfast - they were
Highlanders! At the same we saw other people from Dodgeville there as well
as from other neighboring villages. We always get plenty to eat - especially
me - as I often get leftovers from Bob and Dewey. Terry never seems to have
anything left over!

This weekend marks the start of May. That means the final month of school
for this year (except summer school of course). It doesn't seem that long ago
that it was September and the kids were just starting this school year. Oh
well, graduations will be upon us in a few short weeks. I say short because
the weeks do seem to go by faster all the time!

A heralded classmate of mine - Carlos "Corky" Evans - turned 69 on April
29th. If anyone wants to send him a note or card his address is: 618 Dickinson
Street, New London, WI 54961. I know he and Eileen would love to
hear from friends!
