Dodger girls top Barneveld
The Dodger pitchers, however, had to fight through six errors.
The Dodgers scored first as with two outs, pitcher Kelsey Prochaska singled and went all the way to third on an outfield error. She trotted home on Ashley Chitwood's single.
Barneveld tied things quickly as lead-off batter Taylor Owens singled, stole second and scored on an Amanda Roberts single.
But from there on out, Prochaska and Nicole Jones held the Eagles scoreless - thanks to the help of a game-ending double play in the top of the seventh with runners on first and third.
The Dodger scored their winning tally when Jordyn Alfred walked, Kara Crowley singled, and Allison Dougherty singled in the run.
They tacked on two more in the fifth when Kara Crowley singled and came home on Karley Ross's single. Prochaska then singled driving in Dougherty.
Procaska worked the first four frames striking out two without a walk and giving up the lone run on two hits.
Joness closed with no strikeouts, one walk and one hit.
Dougherty, Ross, Prochaska and Kara Crowley each had two hits with Chitwood getting one.
Owens, Roberts and Samantha Schult had their other lone single.
Mattie Shave worked on the mound four innings for the Eagles. She suffered the loss striking out four, walking one and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits.
Roberts went the final three. She gave up five hits and two runs while fanning two and walking two.
"We basically out-pitched them as both Kelsey and Nicole threw good ball. They only walked one between them while only giving up three hits. That was a good thing as we committed six errors, but had some really good defensive plays mixed in with the errors," said Dodger coach Gene Van Dyck.
"Oveerall we hit the ball fairly well, but we did strike out a little too many times. We are going to have to cut down on that especially with runners in scoring position," he added.
"Sam Crowley started two double plays to get us out of trouble and Alicia Benson and Jordyn Alfred made some real quality catches in the outfield," he concluded.
