Viking diamondmen two-hit New Glarus

Coach James Strommen's righthanded pitching duo of Riley Gould and Kyle Kleppe teamed up on a 2-hitter Monday evening and the host Vikings rolled past the visiting New Glarus Glarner Knights 12-2 in a game shortened to five innings due to the WIAA's 'mercy' rule.
Pecatonica catcher, Cory Linder, was 2x2 with a RBI and outfielder Gavin Burdick added a double and he also drove in a run in the Vikings' non-conference victory.Gould worked the first three and a third inning on the McKellar Park mound, allowed 2 hits, walked 3 and fanned 4.
Kleppe hurled one and two thirds innings, fanned four and issued four bases on balls in a relief appearance.
"This was one of those games where we didn't have a lot of hits - just four in fact, but we utilized the walks, used the 6 errors and made use of the oopportunities presented to us, said Strommen in apsort-game interview.
We need to keep working on throwing strikines and refining our controll in tersms of our pitching,' added Strommen. We gave up 7 walks today and hit a batter and need to cut down on those opportunities - being vbiven to opponents - especially now as we move into our conference season - and with ourt doubleheader Friday.
The Vikings host River Ridge's Timberwolves tomorrow (Friday) in a twin bill at Blanchardville's McKellar Park.
The Pecatonica nine then also hosts the Monticello Ponies Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m.
