Pointers turn back Belleville

Dylan MacGilvera and Joey Dolphin had a stingy streak that lasted six innings Monday.
The pair took the mound--MacGilvera for five innings and Dolphin for one--and limited non-conference opponent Belleville to five hits to help Mineral Point to a 12-2 win.
MacGilvera, who fanned four and walked one while surrendering one hit, was touched for two runs in the fourth. One run scored on a bunt and the other on the fourth hit the junior surrendered.
Dolphin got the hit he gave up out of the way early when the first batter he faced singled. After that he sailed through a scoreless inning.
"I was really pleased with how our pitchers have thrown with tonight's game and last week's scrimmage," said coach Dan Burreson. "Good first game for Dylan MacGilvra who went five innings and walked only one batter. He had good command all night. Nice job in relief by Joey Dolphin."
The bats also did some talking for the Pointers as they clubbed 14 hits.
Sy Staver was perfect at the plate with a 4x4 day and drove in a run.
Gabe Ottoway and Alec Schmitz both went 2x4 and drove in a pair of runs. Ottoway sent in Staver with a hit to end the game in the sixth.
Zach Cummings was 2x3 and drove in a run while Joey Gorgen was two for three and scored once.
Turner Poad doubled for a run and McGilvera got the final hit for the Pointers.
"We hit the ball well as a team," Burreson said. "Sy got us going offensively with a 4 x 4 day at the plate including a double. Turner Poad reached base four out of five times. Gabe Ottoway and Alec Schmitz had two hits apiece each driving in two runs. Joey Gorgen did a good job behind the plate and went 2 x 3 with a triple. Zach Cummings hit the ball hard going 2 x 3."
Extra bases hits came from Gorgen (triple), Poad (double) and Staver (double).
