Pointers complete comeback over Southwestern

Mineral Point pushed across six runs in the first then had to withstand a pesky Southwestern softball team that had taken a lead midway through the game.
But after the Wildcats grabbed a 7-6 lead in the fifth the Pointers knew a comeback was not only in order but it was a necessity.
So without much hesitation the Pointers put the game winning runs on the board with three in the sixth that held up.
Savannah Lawinger worked her way through the ups and downs to earn the pitching win. She struck out eight, walked three and spaced six hits.
Clara Chambers had the hot bat for the Pointers, going 3x5. She stroked three singles and scored twice.
Chambers got the Pointers untracked in the first as she singled, stole second and scored on a single by Lawinger with Destinee Kruser also racing home on the play.
As the inning progressed Megan Blume scored on a bases loaded walk to Elise Ames and Malorie Johnson crossed the plate on a single by Rebekah Ottoway. Kayla Lindholm and Ames scored on a two-run error.
The winning runs came on an rbi double by Lawinger and a two run single by Carlie Qualley.
Chambers was 3x5 while Lawinger and Ottoway both went 2x4. Lindholm, Qualley, Blume and Jenna Pilling all had one hit.
Lawinger, Blume and Ottoway had doubles.
