Girls basketball 2015 all-area honors
Barneveld, coached by the winningest girls coach in Wisconsin, Jim Myers recaptured the Division 5 state championship. Hannah Whitish and Rachel Slaney were honored as first team all-state in D5.
Dodgeville coach Mark Dooley ended up at the D3 sectional finals in his first year at the helm of the Dodgers. They won their second straight SWC title, this time by themselves, and got to the sectional final before losing to eventual state champion Whitewater. Taylor Stanek was named honorable mention all-state in D3.
River Valley, under Darby Blakely, finished second behind Dodgeville and played well against some good competition this season.
Highland, under Josh Tarrell, gave Six Rivers West champion its lone conference loss and the Cardinals were in the hunt until late in the season.
Iowa-Grant, under Craig Jenkins, finished in first division in the SWAL for its best effort in many years.
Mineral Point, under Mitch Wainwright, beat all the SWAL teams except D4 state champion Cuba City. They finished 12-2 in conference play and got to the regional finals before meeting the Cubans for the third time this season.
Pecatonica showed much improvement as the season went on under coach Aaron Lancaster.
Following is the all-area team for girls basketball.
Hannah Whitish, 5-9, jr, guard
Barneveld Golden Eagles
A three year starter, three time first team all-Six Rivers East and first team all-state for Division 5, Hannah is one of the top guards in Wisconsin. She has had several Division 1 colleges at her games.
She had 48 points in the Division 5 state tournament to lead the Eagles to their second straight championship.
She is a complete player who can handle the ball, rebound and defend. If a teammate has a better shot she will get her the ball. She had 142 assists for the season.
Hannah joined the 1000 career point club this season.
"She is a great shooter and at the same time is a very unselfish player," said coach Jim Myers. "She works hard on her game an is continually improving."
She had 187 three pointers this season, eight at the state tournament. She was named first team all-state in D5.
Mia Whitish, 5-9, soph, guard
Barneveld Golden Eagles
A great defender, rebounder and a player who can play any position. Mia is a deadly shooter from the perimeter and can get her shot off on the drive or the post up.
"She worked hard to come back from her ankle injury and made us a lot stronger in the tournaments," said coach Jim Myers.
Mia had 154 points this season to average around eight a game.
Rachel Slaney, 5-10, sr, forward
Barneveld Golden Eagles
Rachel finished an incredible high school career as the leading scorer in Barneveld girls basketball history with 1664 points. Also, the 858 rebounds she grabbed is the second best in school history. A four year starter and all-Six Rivers East player, Rachel played in three state tournaments and came away second once and state champions twice.
"Her motor never quit running," said coach Jim Myers. "She basically refused to lose."
Rachel was named first team all-state in D5.
Maggie Oimoen, 6-2, sr, center
Barneveld Golden Eagles
Talk about going out with a flourish.
Maggie had 17 points and six rebounds against Assumption in the state championship win. She averaged 10 a game for the season with 285 points. She also had 139 rebounds for the season and altered many shots while controlling the middle.
"She worked very hard to get to where she is today," said coach Jim Myers. "When she learned self motivation she became almost unstoppable."
Kelsee Fargo, 5-7, jr, guard
Barneveld Golden Eagles
Kelsee averaged three points a game and scored 90 for the season, including six at the state tournament.
"She played some great defense on the perimeter down the stretch and did a good job handling the ball," said coach Jim Myers.
Mattie Schave, 5-8, jr, forward
Barneveld Golden Eagles
Mattie averaged over four points a game for the Golden Eagles and helped them to their second straight Division 5 state championship. Going into the tournament she had 32 assists and 36 steals. She had seven points and five assists at the state tournament.
"She hit some big shots in the tournaments and played well for us," said coach Jim Myers.
Molly DuCharme, 5-6, sr, guard
River Valley Blackhawks
Molly scored 213 points, grabbed 77 rebounds and had 43 steals for River Valley.
"Her skills were really showcased in our Regional quarterfinal against Richland Center when we asked her to guard first team all-conference Brooklyn Liegel," said coach Darby Blakely. "All she did was hold her to one basket and put in 20 points of her own to lead us to the win.
Molly is a four year letterwinner for the Hawks.
"She is a lockdown defender and has one of the prettiest jump shots I've ever seen," Blakely said.
Kylie Hoffman, 5-10, jr, forward
River Valley Blackhawks
Kylie totaled 223 points, 89 rebounds and 41 assists this season for the Blackhawks.
"She is a good defensive player and a savvy offensive weapon." said coach Darby Blakely. "We asked her to guard 6'0" post player Jaden Ward from Wisconsin Dells and she held her to 10 points. The next game we asked her to play man to man against Taylor Stanek of Dodgeville," Blakely said. "She is one of our floor leaders and was our most consistent player all season. She shot 46% from the field."
Taylor Briehl, 5-9, soph, pg
River Valley Blackhawks
Taylor scored 220 points, grabbed 112 rebounds and had 46 steals for the Blackhawks.
"She was forced to play out of position this season at point guard but really had a nice year,"said coach Darby Blakely. "She was our second leading scorer and is productive all over the court, including the post."
Taylor had some big games back to back with 10 points against Richland Center and eight against Dodgeville in the post season.

"Taylor was named first team SWC All-Conference and Player of the Year. She also earned Honorable Mention All-State honors for the third straight year," coach Mark Dooley said. She totaled 305 points (12.7 per game) and 116 rebounds (4.8).
Hannah Jones, 5-5, fr. guard
Dodgeville Dodgers
"Hannah was named first team SWC All-Conference as a Freshman this year. She lead the team in steals and was third on the team in scoring," coach Mark Dooley said. She averaged 10 points a game with 255 for the season and grabbed 76 rebounds (3.2).
Samantha Crowley, 5-8, sr, guard
Dodgeville Dodgers
Samantha was named Honorable Mention SWC All-Conference this year.
"She was an integral part in Dodgeville having the best season in school history and making it to the Sectional Final." coach Mark Dooley said. Samantha averaged almost seven points a game (165) and had 105 rebounds.
Kennedy Stumpf, 5-9, jr, g/f
Dodgeville Dodgers
"Kennedy was a very important part of Dodgeville having the best season in program history. She was one of the top sixth players in the conference, and was a match-up problem for just about every team we played. She seemed to have a knack for getting a rebound, steal or something the team needed at the most opportune times," said coach Mark Dooley. She scored 113 points (4.7) and had 103 rebounds.
Kara Crowley, 5-8, soph, guard
Dodgeville Dodgers
Kara was named first Team SWC All-Conference this year.
"She was the second leading scorer on the team (258 points) and stepped up as a defensive stopper for us this year. She generally guarded the best or one of the best offensive players on the other team," coach Mark Dooley said.
Kara also had 122 rebounds.
Megan Pluemer, 5-8, jr, f/c
Dodgeville Dodgers
Megan was named Honorable Mention SWC All-Conference this year.
"She was one of the most improved players in the conference and was an important part of Dodgeville's success," said coach Mark Dooley.
Megan scored 176 points (7.3) and had 80 rebounds.
Emma Liddicoat, 5-6, soph, guard
Iowa-Grant Panthers
Emma contributed eight points per game and six assists for the Panthers, helping them to their first upper division finish in several years. She was a first team all-SWAL choice.
"Emma is what I consider our 'pulse' as offensively and defensively we do nothing without her," said coach Craig Jenkins.
Taylor Jackson, 5-5, sr, guard
Iowa-Grant Panthers
A three year starter for IG, Taylor averaged 8.5 points per game this season. She was second in scoring and in made three point shots.
"She became a very good all-around player," said Panther coach Craig Jenkins.
Haley Yelinek, 5-6, jr, guard
Iowa-Grant Panthers
Scored at an 8.5 points per game rate for the Panthers. She was second to Cuba City's Jessi Marti in made three pointers in SWAL games.
"Haley is an extremely hard worker and will be a point of focus for opposing defenses next season," said coach Craig Jenkins.
Kylie Moneypenny, 5-11, sr, c
Iowa-Grant Panthers
Scored an average of eight points per game and led the Panthers in rebounds with a six plus average per game.
"In a conference full of great centers Kylie had a career high of 17 points against Boscobel in the SWAL regular season finale," said coach Craig Jenkins. "She led us in 'and one' three point plays. Her contributions will be felt both on and off the court for years to come."
Caitlin Wienkes, 5-6, jr, guard
Highland Cardinals
Caitlin averaged 12 points per game, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. She is first team all-Six Rivers West.
"Caitlin has worked extremely hard again this year and it showed in her play," said coach Josh Tarrell. "She defended the opponent's best guard every game. She can play any position from point guard to post, is an intelligent player and excels on and off the court."
Brenna Bomkamp, 5-11, sr, c
Highland Cardinals
Brenna averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds per game for Highland this season. She finished her career with four years starting with 900 points and 901 rebounds.
"Brenna is and has been our leader for the past three seasons," coach Josh Tarrell said. "She is very dedicated in the classroom, on the court and in the weight room. She is one of the strongest players in the league. She is a great student, our salutatorian, an outstanding athlete and a person who picks students up, seeing the best in everyone."
Clara Chambers, 5-8, jr, guard
Mineral Point Pointers
Clara tallied 345 points for the Pointers this season. She shot 43% from the field, 72% free throws and 44% from three point range. She helped the Pointers to a 12-2 SWAL record for second place behind state champion Cuba City.
Her point per game average was 14.4. She was first team all-SWAL.
Jessica Schultz, 6-3, jr, center
Mineral Point Pointers
Jessica was out for a few games midway through the season with a foot injury but returned to average 11.6 points per game on 185 points. She was first team SWAL.
Sydney Staver, 5-8, soph, guard
Mineral Point Pointers
Sydney averaged 11.1 points per game and helped the Pointers to a 12-2 SWAL record. She is first team all-SWAL and a two year starter for the Pointers.
Destinee Kruser, 5-6, soph, g/f
Mineral Point Pointers
Destinee averaged 5.8 points per game and totaled 115 for the season. She is a two year varsity performer and was honorable mention all-conference in the SWAL.
Emily Scoville, 5-8, sr, guard
Pecatonica Vikings
Emily scored 101 points and averaged 7.8 per game for the Vikings. She helped the team improve every game.
She was honorable mention Six Rivers East,
Brooke Johnson, 5-8, sr, forward
Pecatonica Vikings
A Six Rivers East honorable mention choice Brooke was a solid performer for the Vikings.
Brooke averaged five points a game.
