Along the Ad Routes

I usually don't read a lot on FACEBOOK, but this caught my attention with
all the police related shootings going on. "The story below was relayed to
one of our troopers by hospital staff in Rock Springs, Wyoming yesterday
(Saturday).
"After working a crash near Rock Springs, Trooper Mitch Kannier went to
the hospital in Rock Springs to meet with the driver of the crash. The driver
had some family members present at the hospital including a small boy.
While conducting his crash investigation, Trooper Kannier heard the boy
multiple times say he was hungry. In talking with the child's mother, Trooper
Kannier learned the family had fallen on hard times and presently had no
money. The father had just started back to work and they were waiting on
his first paycheck. After completing his investigation, Trooper Kannier took
the boy down to the hospital cafeteria and bought him lunch and also made
sure the boy got some food to give to his mom as well."
Some of the hospital employees that were eating at the time felt this act by
Trooper Kannier was really cool and they felt he deserved some recognition
for this exceptionally kind deed.
Well done Trooper Kannier. Mission accomplished!

How about the Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team? Final Four
again! Saturday's game was almost unbelieveable - shooting nearly 80%
overall in the second half and only missing two 3-point tries out of 12 - and
the game wasn't really decided until the final 3-pointer by Sam Dekker with
not very much time left on the clock (about 20 seconds). Dekker was named
the "Most Valuable Player" of the regional and most deservedly. He was
amazing - especially the last three games. And (maybe) National Player of
the Year Frank Kaminsky wasn't too bad himself. But the unsung hero could
be Josh Gasser, who was assigned to defend the other team's top scorer from
the outside in each game and made the All-Tournament team along with
Dekker and Kaminsky. Now it's "Go Badgers" against Kentucky and (hopefully)
whoever comes next in the NCAA Championship game!

It was great to see Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers at the
UW games cheering them on (see above)! His big smile and girlfriend Olivia
Munn's too - seated next to him - was probably only matched by Sam
Dekker's "wink" at the camera and his teammates after making that huge
three pointer down the stretch - that became known as "Dekker's Dagger"!

Sunday morning's ice was a little bit scary at times. I came out of my house
around 9 a.m. to head to the office and then church. I walked along my sidewalk
to my car fine, but when I hit the step that was just down from my sidewalk
to my driveway my feet went out from underneath me. Luckily my feet
hit dry pavement on my next move and I didn't hit the ground. I was talking
with Lynn Munz (Highland) a little while later and she had a brace on her
leg/knee, telling me that was the same thing that happened to her awhile back
and she tore a bunch of ligaments - I was lucky! My feet almost went out
from under me again when I stepped onto the curb outside of church. Again
I caught myself with a dry pavement in that same location. Now the temperature
has warmed up and we should be on the "uphill" swing!

Saturday, April 18th is the Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships that
will be held at Harris Park right here on the northeast side of Dodgeville from
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will bring a couple thousand people here that
day. The Milk Marketing Board of Wisconsin is one of the main sponsors of
the event. They told our chamber of commerce committee that some 70 volunteers
are needed for the one-day (actually three day) event. People are
needed for set-up on Friday, working on Saturday at the event and tear down.
If you can help out, contact the chamber or Matt Staver at Farmers Saving
Bank in Dodgeville. If we don't get the volunteers, the event could be moved
to Madison in the future - and we love having it here!
