Highland couldn't find passing game

Highland's girls volleyball team had plenty time to work on their defense when they hosted Benton Thursday.
But that was not the way the game plan was supposed to play out.
"We didn't pass well and didn't get much to set," said coach Maria Wineski after the Cardinals lost three straight to the Zephyrs. Scores were 25-17, 25-13, 25-23.
"We played defense all night," Wineski added. "Our serve receive game was off and we just could not pass. We looked good when we set the ball but we didn't get too many chances to do that."
The Cardinals only had 13 assists for the three games between their two setters.
"Benton is a good team but it wasn't a case of them beating us as much as it was we beat ourselves," Wineski added.
Brenna Bomkamp had five kills and five blocks for the Cardinals. Karen McMannes led in assists with seven and in aces with three.
Caitlin Wienkes picked up 17 digs.
"She hustled all night and was our bright spot for the passing we did," Wineski said.
