Girls win, boys 2nd at Belleville XC


Dodgeville-Mineal Point girls cross country team won and boys finished second Saurday at te Belleville Invitational.
The girls ran without number one runner Hannah Owens, but Mary Hanson filled her shoes and took the top spot in the 5000 meter run with a time of 20:37.
Teammate Brittany Rhyner was fourth in 21:08 with Mikaela Bakker sixth in 21:55, McKenzie Hall eighth in 22:30 and Emily Philipps 15th in 23:36.
The final two varsity runners were Kennedy Stumpf 18th in 23:45 and Mariah Zoet 21st in 24:23.
The Dodge-Point team won with 33 points to runner-up New Glarus/Monticello's 83.
The rest of the team finishes were: Evansville 88, Baraboo 92, Clinton 144, Beloit Turner 149, Belleville 154, Pecatonica/Argyle 191, Home School 200.
The JV team had the top three finishers in Megan Hottmann 23:15, Drew Sandstrom 23:27 and Claire Baldus 24:32. Alexis Bauer was 5th in 24:42 and Brittany Walczak 6th in 25:16.
Other finishes were: Abby Thompson 8th 25:18, Shianne Carroll 9th 25:28, Jaynie Gorgen 10th 25:49, Hannah Sigg 13th 27:03, Alyssa Sullivan 16th 27:31, Jackie Frank 21st 27:49, Claire Binsfeld 24th 28:49, Ashley Chitwood 27th 29:16 and Diana Dochnahl 34th 35:10.
Baraboo won the boys race with 39 points to Dodge-Point's 68. Then came New Glarus/Monticello 75, Clinton 145, Evansville 152, Holy Family 156, Belleville 184, Home School 200 with Beloit Turner, Southwestern/Cuba City and Saint Ambrose running with incomplete teams .
Dodge-Point's Tyler Wunnicke finished fourth in 17:44 over the 5000 meter course.
Juan Navarro was 7th in 18:15 with Chapin Orr 18th in 19:31, Luke Davis 19th in 19:34 and Tanner Cullen 21st in 19:44.
Also, Isaac Grunow was 28th in 20:26 and Stewart Thompson was 34th in 21:01.
The race was won by Baraboo's Matt Brooks in 17:24.
The boys JV race found Dodge-Point's Jordan May in third place at 20:25 behind winner Brian McCormick of Baraboo's 20:09 and his teammate Aaron Brekke at 20:13.
The other Dodge-Point results were: Ty Driscoll 8th 21:14, John Phalen 22nd 22:08, Conner Trocke, John Davis and Noah Lawinger 21-23 in 22:57, 23:00 and 23:08, Trevor Ross 27th 23:34.
Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw had these general comments about the meet: "The varsity girls won the Belleville Invite by a large margin, beating 2nd place New Glarus/Monticello by 50 points. Mary Hanson won the meet with a great run that helped lead the Dodge-Point varsity girls to a victory.
"It was nice that the JV girls also won the meet.
"The varsity boys took second to a very good Division I school, Baraboo. Tyler Wunnicke led the Dodge-Point boys with a fourth place finish.
"The JV boys also took second.
"It is exciting to see the runners working so hard and improving week to week.
"We look forward to the Janesville Midwest invite on Saturday, which is our largest meet of the year. It will be at the Blackhawk Golf Course, just south of Janesville (exit 174A). The schedule is: 9:15 Fresh-men/Sophomore Girls, 9:50 Fresh-men/Sophomore Boys, 10:25 Var-sity Girls, 11:00 Varsity Boys, 11:35 JV Girls, 12:10 JV Boys.
