Pointers ease by Lady Bulldogs in three
Extra long back and forth volleys entertained the crowd as Boscobel kept each game close before the Pointers swept the match at 3-0.
Scores were 25-19, 25-19, and 25-18.
The Pointers took early leads in each game, but often lacked the killer instinct they needed to blowout the Bulldogs.
In game one, the Pointers took a 10-3 lead on a Carly Tibbits ace serve, and stayed ahead 15-10 on a Jessica Schultz spike. Mineral Point reached the illustrious 20 point mark first on a block kill from Clara Chambers, but the Bulldogs battled back to get within 21-18 thanks in part to too many free balls from the Pointers. Natalie Chubb's bizarre bump kill was the final point of the game that sealed the win.
Serving errors plagued the Pointers early in game two as the score was tied at 10 all before the Pointers went on a 5-0 run, capped off by a Sadie Pethel kill. Chambers and Schultz teamed up for a block that found the Pointers up 20-13, but again, Boscobel came crawling back to get within 21-19. The Pointers staved off the visitor's attack and tallied the win on an ace serve from Chambers.
The third game was again close all the way up to the 10-8 mark in favor of Point. Schultz tallied a kill to make it 15-8, Chubb scored to make it 20-12, and Chambers put away the game and the match at 25-18.
Chambers was again the kill leader with nine and two blocks. Schultz was right on her tail with eight kills. Tibbits and Jalissa Weier served three aces each. Sydney Staver tallied two blocks and set for 28 assists. Elise Ames had five digs.
For the Bulldogs, Anna Johnson had eight assists and three aces; Tayler King two blocks; Kenzie Trumm seven kills; Maisy McQuillan nine digs; and Sydney Williams eight assists.
"We came out a little flat tonight," said Pointer coach Dana Gevelinger. "We need to work on keeping our intensity throughout every game, even if we are ahead on the scoreboard. Jalissa Weier and Carly Tibbits did a nice job serving."
