Along the Ad Routes

It's time to toot our own horn a little! We held our "Best Of" reception a
week ago Monday at the Dodger Bowl. If you read our special section in
last week's Chronicle, you saw that there were a good number of repeat
winners, but there were also a good number of "first timers". We probably
had more people attending the early evening get together than in any of the
past four other years. It's a good way to meet the Chronicle staff as well as
others in business around the area - maybe some are your competition!
Above, is a shot of some of the people after they got a preview of the special
section that named them "Best Of" after the awards were handed out!

Saturday afternoon was the annual Dodgeville downtown Halloween
party. Kids enjoyed a lot of games, candy and treats, photos being taken, a
bounce house and great weather! It's great to see businesses working
together on a project that local and area people can enjoy.

For the 19th consecutive year we can say "Congratulations" to the
Dodgeville-Mineral Point girls cross country team as they won the sectional
race Saturday at Platteville and now will compete in the state championships
this Saturday at Wisconsin Rapids. Nineteen years in a row has to
be approaching some kind of record for any team. For a few years they ran
just as Dodgeville, but then the co-op came and the rest is history. They
have a pretty senior laden team this year (for one of the first times), but
seem to rebuild each year. There are some pretty impressive underclass
members, along with some underclass on varsity - who are very impressive.
I can't believe the work these girls (and boys) do in the off season. I even
see some of them religiously running in the snow during the winter to get
their miles in during the off season and experience any condition. They have
a few teams who are pretty darn good that they will see at state, but then the
Dodge-Point team is pretty darn good too!

Friday is the true Halloween. So you had better be on your toes for
"tricks" or "treats!

Don't forget that we "fall back" with our clocks Sunday (November 2nd)
morning at 2:00 a.m. as it's the end of daylight savings time for 2014.
Here's a few facts about daylight savings time - Arizona and Hawaii are currently
the only two states that don't observe daylight saving time. In Utah,
two lawmakers say they will propose a bill to get rid of daylight saving
time, reports The Washington Post. One reason is safety: Parents are concerned
about their kids going to school in the dark in the morning, The Post
reports. Also, it's just plainly a pain to change your clocks twice a year.
Earlier this year, an Alabama lawmaker introduced a bill for year-round
daylight saving time. The bill would keep the state on Central Daylight
Time and not switch twice a year. The idea behind daylight saving time is
to take advantage of daylight hours and save energy. But some studies have
shown there's minimal energy savings, reports National Geographic.
