Panthers can't close out with Fennimore
The Panthers rolled to a 25-19 first game win but they only won once more in the five game set to lose to the Golden Eagles 3-2.
Fennimore won the second and third sets 25-23 and 25-16 before the Panthers regrouped and picked up a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
But, a close battle followed in game five and the Eagles tripped the Panthers 15-13.
"This was a really tough loss, as we take the first set but really can't seem to find a place to put the ball down when needed throughout the match," said Panther coach Marla Simon.
She said after the losses in sets two and three she had to shake up the line-up to get something going.
"To win the fourth set we have sophomore Hannah Stevens come in to help with our hitting struggles," Simon said. "In the last two sets she collected 10 hits."
Simon felt the setting held up well throughout the night.
"Taylor Liddicoat did a good job all night feeding her hitters or trying to get her own points on the setter dump, but the hitters couldn't put it down," Simon said. "Long volleys don't usually end in your favor and that seems to be a big struggle for us."
Simon also felt the back row play held up but the turning point may have been when communication broke down for the Panthers.
"Taylor Jackson had a pretty nice night in the back row with her 23 digs," Simon said.
"But, we had some moments of communication and all out just go for the ball that plagued a few of players and that really hurt in the end."
She said the Panthers are going to work hard to rebound and finish conference strong then get into the post season with stronger play and better execution.

The Panthers swept Boscobel last Tuesday winning three straight 25-18, 27-25, 25-20.
"It was a good night to sweep in three," coach Simon said. "We did have a little bit of a tight match in the second set however five kills by Emma Liddicoat and three kills by Kylie Moneypenny helped us pull out that set. Taylor Liddicoat had a strong night with her setting which led a pretty balanced attack for all of our hitters. It was nice win on the road."
