Along the Ad Routes

Brother Patrick and myself made it to Wisconsin Dells Saturday evening
for the Wisconsin High School Coaches Association (WCBA) annual Hall
of Fame banquet and induction ceremonies. It was great watching classmate
Rick Brown, a center on the 1964 state championship basketball team, get
inducted. He was very proud and happy - as well he should be. His inside
presence in all games made it tough for teams to score inside and he scored
pretty well himself.
*****
Also, neighbor Karen Crowley was inducted. I call her neighbor because
she and her husband Larry own the Corner Drug Store HomeTown
Pharmacy that is located right next door to the Chronicle! She played for
Madison East High School and the UW Badgers Women's teams. She
played when they used the men's ball and there was no three-point line and
she scored pretty well!

The ceremonies were fairly long starting at around 6:50 and ending
around 9:45, but everything was impressive. Cuba City boys basketball
coach Jerry Petitgoue announced the awards with television sportscaster Jay
Wilson serving as master of ceremonies. There was a record (over) 800 people
in attendance - wow!

You'll have to skim over the advertisements, update section and correspondence
for the fall festivals and special organizations that are holding
feeds and any other event because there are a bunch early in October.
*****
One big October kick-off event is the annual OKTOBERFEST this
Sunday in Highland. The food is great. The music is great. And there are
events going on for the entire family. It's well worth a trip to the northwestern
part of Iowa County on Sunday! Above is a photo of some of the youngsters
enjoying the "Decorate Your Own Pumpkin" part of the event.

I've heard several good comments about the cornstalks that were put
around poles and some trees in downtown Dodgeville. They do add a "little
bit of fall" to the streets. The corn is turning from green pretty fast this
fall. It's pretty remarkable to see a field of corn that is half green and half
turned!

This week is Dodgeville's homecoming week with the football game
(against Lancaster) Friday night and the dance following. Also several new
people will be inducted into the Dodgeville High School Athletic Hall of
Fame. They will be part of the parade, will be introduced at halftime of the
football game and will be inducted at ceremonies held at the Dodger Bowl
following the game. Check out the sport pages for a little bio on who is
being inducted and you'll be impressed!
